About 6 months ago I broke the rear triangle yesterday I noticed this crack in my frame when we where loading Art's bike into my truck. Went back home and grabed my RFX so I did not miss a ride. Thanks to those that waited for me to get to trailhead.
I seem to only get about 2 years out of a frame before they crank. I broke my 5-Spot in the same place, seat tube between where the shock mounts. Niner replaced the triangle the same day and I hope they have some warranty frames around, I know these frames are backordered and the patch due in two weeks have already been sold. I tore the frame down this AM and I am taking the frame over to The Path and should know tomorrow about a warranty frame. And no don't tell me to get a different frame that doesn't break, I have one of those, my Turner RFX but this is my light bike and I know that at my weight 225 I push it. I still like the way the RIP rides over the Sultan. Now if Donkey would sell me his new Lenz frame I would jump ship. Dean

Yep but we both know Niner will make it right.

Sorry to hear about your frame Dean, but glad you caught it before the ride. It could have been bad out on the trail.

Right at the weld again, not sure how the "boutique" brands do their post torch heat treat but it's clear they either need to work on it or spec a thicker seat tube on the larger sizes. Could just be the alloy though, 7000 series may be harder but is brittle compared with 6000. Or aren't these the more ductile scandium alloy?

Sorry to see this... the one that I broke was an 07 replaced within 24 hrs and back up and running. It appears that they had made some changes with the gusset and the new one looks a bit more sturdy and has been issue free. It always cracks (no pun intended) me up how all of a sudden we need recalls and people start to talk SH!t about bikes that break when the bottom line is all bikes break. I was hitting stuff that I probably should not have but Niner stepped up and took care of it, no questions, no "where is your receipt" no anything other than here is your new ft triange and have a nice day..
Dean, I hope that you have the same experience...

Replacement front triangle here Wednesday. The other option was a $150 up charge to the new RIP frame and wait until mid June when the next shipment comes in. I have dealt with buying frames in production before and they never get delivered on time...normally 1-2 months later than promised. So went with the Demo triangle they had.
Besides the $150 to upgrade to a 2009 RIP frame, I would have needed to buy, new seatpost (different diameter), seat clamp, front derailleur. Plus the new RIP has tapered headtube designed around a 120 fork...not sure my 100 Reba/Pike would work well. Don't really want to buy a new fork. Tani, from The Path, thanks for getting right on it and getting things resolved...you are the best. Dean

I had that same thought but if I was going to upgrade I would have gone to the WFO with the new Zoke 44. Dean
