I got a sweet deal on an '04 Banshee Chapparall frame(brand new) about a year and a half ago, and am starting to ride it more aggressively. I am a little confused on its shock configuration and was hoping you guys could help me out. I know that there are two places on the seat tube to mount the rocker arms to, the lower is for air shocks, and the upper for coil(os so I've heard), why not mount air or coil to the same linkage? Also, it is 5"-6" adjustable travel, and the rocker arms have a forward and a rear bolthole for the shock bolt. What is the difference in travel, and does that change the stroke of the shock?
Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

ok, I have one so I will try to help.
If all the numbers are the same I don't see why replacing an air shock for the coil would be a problem. For example the Banshee Wild Card comes in either a DHX coil or DHX air, same stroke and eye to eye dimensions, ensure the eye to eye and stroke are the same. Note: when the rocker arm are positioned in the lower pivot point travel is now 4-5", I think a 2" stroke shock has to be used. The Chap at that time was a super adjustable bike. mine is built to 45 lbs, while the other side of the spectrum you can build it to be a low 30 lbs "all mountain/EPIC" bike. The hole closest to the seat tube is the 6" mode when the rockers are on the high pivot point. Going between 5and6" modes wont affect shock stroke, but may affect the spring rate Another note: A Fox DHX coil will only fit if in the 5" mode with the piggy back portion of the shock mounted to the rockers and the piggy back should face the seat tube otherwise the SHOCK WILL HIT THE FRAME NEAR FULL COMPRESSION. Older Vanilla RC will fit fine. Also if you put a 5th element in there the piggy back portion of the shock should be mounted at the lower mount near the BB and the piggy should face the down tube. I hope that helps, or here is the simple version keep it the 6" mode and rally it up |

Call Trident Adventure Sports in Canada or call Jim at Adrenaline Bikes. Either one should be able to get you the correct answer.

I have a Manitou Swinger on there now with a piggyback and have hit the downtube lightly already. Not enough to hurt anything, just lightly mark the downtube. When in 6" mode, which is what I want, I feel like my travel is restricted. The shock on it is a 2.0 stroke, is that the wrong stroke for the 6" setting.
I really want to get this thing set up right as a good AM rig.![]()

Soul Rider, is that the same eye 2 eye as the other travel setting? Again thanks for the help, I should have this beast set up soon.

As a previous owner of the 04' Chapparal, I feel the need to warn any one who's got one. Be careful with the downtube! It's super thin! The bike is overbuilt everywhere except on the downtube and the deraileur hanger breaks if you look at it wrong. I broke 10 deraileur hangers in 12 months.
After one bumpy shuttle run up Maple Springs, I got a major dent in the down tube (front wheel hanging over the tailgate). 6months later the whole downtube broke open like a tin can. Eventhough Banshee's warranty is for "10yrs" they wouldn't help me out cause it was an "impact failure". So, now it decorates a wall in my garage. lame. Hope yours goes well, I had great luck with a Romic 2.0 stroke set at 6inches, always.
