Just wanted to share my experience;
So after trying to lead a downhill charge with a woefully inadequate light I wound up with a crumpled front wheel and some new "Dirt Tattoos" on my knees. Since Post ride Martinis and Pitchers should not accompany every ride it quickly became apparent that you simply cannot spend enough money on safety equipment, look at it as an investment that pays dividends every time it saves your ass. Since we are now approaching shorter daylight hours I'll try to amble on to the point. The first thing to get is some decent shades I like Oakley Flak Jacket XLJ's with the golfing lenses since the radars gave me a headache. The $50 bucks you spend on clear lenses is worth every penny when you can ride without a grip of fine particulates obscuring a line. Anyway lights right? So I got a Tri-Newt and it was bloody fantastic. Lit up the Trail like a Spot light on the ghetto bird a little heavy on the helmet, but at least I could see where I was going. Sold the first one to Mr. Brown at cost when I saw him rolling with a Mag light Zip-tied to his helmet. Though it took a few months to get another again I was loving riding at night with out fear of what may lurk in front when Hauling Ass. So the initial batch had some small charging issues which caused a bad rep and people to think their $400 light was defective. Mine was working fine though not getting much use when all of the sudden the battery would not hold a charge. I found myself scavenging for the receipt and warranty card (who fills them out anyway?) and after reviewing the terms the battery was only covered for six months from date of purchase and I was on month eight . So after a brief phone call I had an RA# and shipped the battery off to San Diego for repair on a Friday. The next Wednesday It was right back with a capacitor re-soldered, and had been run through a Charge/discharge to ensure the power cells were behaving properly. Total Cost to me for the work: Nothing, not even a charge for the $5 in shipping , hats off to nite rider for creating and backing an excellent product. One funny thing though the light pattern is now different as you can see by the pic below but at least I know I can feel safer out on the trail at night. |

The good people at Niterider were a pleasure to deal with. I shipped it to them Friday morning.... had it back on TUESDAY!!! ![]() What impressed me most was the fact, the repair sheet listed every part that had been tested (i.e. pass/fail) as well as every part that had been replaced! ![]() As for the Trinewt itself: Powerful, relatively compact, very good battery life... attachments (i.e. cables/handlebar/helmet mounts). Best of all, I find the color temperature produced by this light to be superior to all other LED/HID lights.

I'm glad you had a good experience with Night Rider. I wish I could say the same. I had one of those old twin beam lights. When the battery died, I sent the light back. The stopped making parts for it, couldn't get a new battery pack as the cords and charger were different so had to get a new light. Since Night Rider was the best on the market at the time and local I bought a Digi head trip. Worked fine for a few years, then one off season later it wouldn't take a charge. So I call my buddies at NR, they say yeah that happens send it and we will recharge it. So it comes back a few weeks later and at a cost of $100 bucks to jump start the battery. First twilight ride, the light died after 15 minutes... I call NR the day after limping home in the dark, "so sorry nothing we can do" is their response. Well they make a good product and I had disposeable income and a desire to ride the luge at night, so I drop coin on the HID system. I've had to send it in one time for a "non warranty" issue and they fixed it at a cost. The light hasn't been the same since, doesn't have the burn times it used to, like maybe 90 minutes. I understand things change and older system become obsolete, but I've spent at least a grand with NR and wasn't overwhelmed with their service or longevity. Hopefully the Li Ion and LED's will prove to be better.
I've purchased a dinotte system as most of my nightriding is on the road now. Very happy with it after one season. |
