Default GPS Questions

I need to buy a new gps sometime soon. I have a ten year old Magellan that i use when im out hiking but its just about dead. Cab I use the Cycling garmins for hiking and specifically mapping points while out hiking. DOes it save any info like time etc when you plot points ? does anyone use there 105/605/705 for hiking and plotting locations

I think the Edge and the Forerunner have basic navigation features. Meaning you can save points and trace yourself back to start. But thats going to be it. So if you wanted to just mark waypoints, then yes the forerunner and edge are capable of doing that. But if you want to upload a map onto the gps then those wont support it. I think the edge 705 has mapping capablities, but that will run you 600 bucks.

I recently took my forerunner 305 out to do some field work and we needed to mark our coordinates. I was able to mark the locations and get it onto my computer fine.

Yes you can plot points (place & time) with the Edge 205,305,605,705. It happens in two ways.
(1) when you tell it to record a waypoint. you give the waypoint a name
(2) when the timer is running your entire journey is recorded in a series of points (place & time & speed).

Yes, I've been know to HAB.

And
3) Depending on your external software lap / splits can be turned into waypoints / markers.
