Default Chain Size/Play

So I finally gave up and decided that I'm not going to clean Big Red at Peter's with a 32/20 so I stopped by the Path after my ride bought a 22 surly cog and a 1/2x1/8 KMC KOOL Chain well fortunitly the new gear fit with the old chain. But I figured since I bought it I'd put it on. Well I it layed up there and noticed a whole lot of side play on the front chain ring. Is that really a concern?

Also can some one throw up a picture ot the proper tool for the cog Set screw?

Oh and in case you didn't figure it out it's a SS

What do you mean by play in the front chainring? Are the bolts loose?

What do you mean by a set screw for the rear cog? What kind of hub is it? Pictures could help.

In ref to the play. It seems that the chain is to wide it moves generously from side to side (grab one link and push in & out)

in ref to the lock-nut/set screw whatever it is. You take off the lock-nut the remove the cog. Replace cog and tighten lock-nut.

The chain is wide, 1/8" wide. It can fit thicker rings & cogs. Did you have a 9-speed 3/32" chain before?

As for replacing your cog, looks like an oldstyle bottom bracket tool should work. I have a pedal-wrench with BB tool on other end.

No on the chain size I looked for an exact replacement put they only have that one in bright colors so I got one that was the same 1/2x1/8 but it just seemed really loose.

Its the Kool chain, again they run big, and loose as compared to that same size in other versions, like said, it fits wider cogs as well.
