Default Going to build my first bike...which frame, ugh!

Just wondering with all the frames available out there where to start. I know i want to run 26" wheels and full suspension. But where do I go to learn which frame is "best" for me. I'm sure a lot of it is probably preference. So I want something that's not too pricey for a frame. Definitely under a grand. But other than that not really too sure what I want. Any suggestions on where to look or maybe what frame you like?

just casual xc stuff. nothing too crazy. small jumps is the craziest thing I do. chino hills, telegraph canyon; that area is a favorite of mine. also el morro is fun. So like I said, nothing crazy at all.

have you looked at the BMC frame off of Jenson? i know some other STR members own that frame, and i've heard great stuff.. The titus's feel nice also, but get pricy.. what is your price range?

I wanna get it low budget, still in school and trying to move out in the next year so can't put too much $$$ into it. So i don't wanna go too cheap like I did with my IH, but don't wanna get too pricy either. I was thinking 4-600 for a frame would be good. but i just pulled that number out of the air. LOL

Find a late model used frame. You'll end up with a lot better frame. As long as you're set on which frame you're looking for. A good 4-5" travel frame from any reputable mfgr should do you good! A lot better bang for your buck.

let me look some up for you... problem is, decent rear shocks cost about 2-300$ bucks, and even more for an air shock...
I have a frame in mind, but give me a few and let me look something up

http://www.jensonusa.com/store/produ...+07+Frame.aspx

an awesome deal.... a bit over the budget though..

check out wheelworld.com (str supporter's as well), they have a bunch of Kona and Giant frames on closeout from '07. If you buy it before wednesday night, you can save another 20% if you enter the coupon code "chill"

otherwise go hit up a local bike shop and ask if they have anything on closeout from '07

I think that's the way to go. I have a friend who just built most of his FS bike off of the market place here and only spent $200 on the frame.

ya I considered sette and I don't wanna go with anything thats going to be way heavier than my hardtail. I wanna try and find a light full suspension frame.

how tall are you? 4" or 5" rear? same travel front and rear?

do you like going fast down, or you more interested in beating your last time uphill?

If you are on a budget then why build a bike? Wouldn't buying a complete bike be the more economical route? What is your complete budget?

he is making it a long term build...
for example, he wants to buy the frame, then go from there by saving up for parts and pieces as he gets the money

I've got a 2007 Mongoose Teocali Super frame (medium) for sale. $300.00 The frame is a warranty replacement and was only ridden for about a month.

http://www.mongoose.com/mtn/ProductD...2357&enc=mtn|6

It needs a new shock (7.5x2.0). The shock works but the threads on the schrader are stripped. You can still put air in but it's kind of a pain.

Default I think you should go with...

off the shelf Stock bike. You'll get a better bike then any low budget custom bike. The Titus ML1 is one of the best deal for a complete inexpensive trail bike, If you around LA I have a Demo bike at the shop.
Other option is looking for used High End bike.
