I'm in the process of upgrading my wife's bike and got a stans (notubes) kit for it...
I've tried everything Stan explains on his video but can't get the tire to inflate with my floor pump...is it "doable" with a floor pump? I know an air compressor would do the trick, but I don't have one and the video shows how "easy" it is to do it without one... Any suggestions? ![]() Thanks! |

I have done it before several times with a floor pump. Make sure you use plenty of soapy water. Don't set the tire on the floor but hang it from something. If I remember correctly, I had the valve stem positioned on the top. Put a little pressure on where ever the tire leaks most when pumping and pump like a madman...
CO2 also works but only use it to get the initial seal and then pump up the rest. Good luck! |

I always use the floor pump to pump up all of my tubeless setups. As a last resort I'll use the compressor or CO2. Like the above post make sure that the valve stem is at the 12 o'clock position, and make sure that you center the bead on the rim equally.

I'm sure you've watched the movies on Stan's sight, but if not, do so. Some tires are definitely harder to seal than others, but with enough patience you should get your tires to seal with a floor pump. I've found that it helps to hang the wheel with the valve at the top as silverspot suggested, and push down lightly on the tire directly above the valve to help trap the air. Good luck!

Thanks guys...I'll try again.
I've watched the video several times now, soaked the beads in soapy water, etc...the only thing I now realized I'm doing different is that I'm inflating the tire with the valve at 6" instead of 12"...maybe that detail can make a huge difference! ![]() I'll try it again tomorrow and will tell you how it goes. Thanks! Andy. |

i have found that certain tires grant access to the floor pump process and others do not. most ust specific tires have a beefy enough sidewall for it to seat well enough on the bead for a floor pump to catch. almost all of the non ust tires i have tried have been literally impossible to seat.
all i know is if you can find an air compressor (work, friend, etc.) it can turn the process into a 10 minute job and less all of the sweat and frustration.

Unfortunatly with teh stans kit, its all about the tire and rim combo, which tires and wheel are we talking about???

Good thing they passed that law a couple years back making it illeagal to charge for air if your asked for it!!!!! If you dont like the local Gas station, just stop at your Local garage, the guys are usually pretty cool about doing something like that.

Haha, yeah. They either need to give you a token, turn it on remotly, or give you a code to turn it on. Bu if you need air for a tire, and you ask, one way or another they cant charge you for it. One of those new DoT laws trying to keep the streets safer, giving noone an excuse why tehre air pressure was low casuing a blowout Bla Bla Bla..... Just a note though, if your in need of a compressor to get your tires on with a stans system, your not going to get it on with the quarter op machine at teh station anyways, they usually only supply about 35PSI, and not much volume. What it really takes to get these on is Volume a compressor set at 90 PSI will always do the trick, If you live near me, come see me at goodyear, I would ba happy to shoot your tires up for you

Ok, I couldn't wait (this is killing me!), so just went outside and tried it one more time...
Lots of soapy water, internal rim aligned, valve at 12" and nothing...I couldn't do it with my floor pump ![]() Btw, the rims are WTB DX23 and the tires CST Caballero...nothing fancy (nor UST), just the stock stuff that my wife's bike came with. Maybe it's a good excuse to get an air compressor? ![]() |

I've done a total of 3 wheels and have done all 3 w/ a floor pump and NO soapy water....NO problems at all....bead set easy....
The benefit I noticed was passing all the people on Butcher trail in Downieville fixing flats(easily 10+)....I HATE FIXING flats on the trails...

I could never seal tires with a floorpump, I'm running ghetto tubeless though, not stans. I bought a co2 because I dont have a compresser either and it seals tires usually first try. Buy the gun cartridges though, they are alot cheaper than the ones meant for the inflator.

With a valve core tool, there about 2 bucks at your local auto parts house. yes with the valve out, it will allow more volume to come through the stem. One more question, did you drill the inner wall of the wheel? and what rim tape are you running underneath the rim strip?

Just did a 650B NeoPacenti tire on a stand rim.
Not only did it require the compressor, I had toremove the valve core the first time to get enough psi and volume to seat the tire the first time.
