So, to slightly mirror stinkyrider's thread about his poor stinky, I have a question.
I was riding in Big Bear this weekend, and I headed down fall line. We took this random trail by accident, and long story short I ended up with an awkward crash on my franken hardtail. Next thing I know, I'm looking at my front brake lever, dangling limply with the actuation rod (the one you turn to adjust reach) pulled out . I was able to push the rod back into the lever body, where it snapped in and started acting like usual. Everything seemed to be working, and I was able to (carefully) ride out the last bit to my cabin. My question: should I be worried about the brake lever? Everything seems to be working, but I don't want to have something happen because I'm trusting broken brakes (especially since it's my front brake). Also, It looked like the actuation rod was slightly bent, and I'd like to replace that if the previously mentioned issue isn't a problem. would any of the shops around here (like the path) happen to have formula spares? Thanks in advance, Bryan |

It should be fine but just give Chris at Formula a call:707-765-2770. They are great guys and are always willing to help out. Most likely just tell them the deal and they will just give you a new piston rod for free. By the way I have popped the rod of my rear brake out before and I just popped it back in and I have had no issues for the last 4 months. Formula brakes are the best out there and so is their service. Later.

Been there done that and all should be good to go as long as you do not have a fluid leak as a result

Bryguy17 sorry to hear about you Formulas, those are killer brakes. Summit was really eating bikes Sunday.
We saw a C-Dale lefty with a Toco'd front wheel on the way down lower fall line, We asked the rider what happened ? He said he lay'd it into a berm and the wheel just folded, as he went over the bars. It looked painful. It was good riding with you guys. Good luck with the brakes. |

I've had a similar situation after a couple of crashes. Had to force the shaft back into position. The second time, the brake was becoming too squishy... even after adjusting the lever actuation. I bought a bleed kit and bled the brakes. They work great now, once again.

I agree with art23, I fixed my brakes when i went to formulas. I really don't like my avids anymore. I was able to go down fall line without locking up the rear on my hardtail, with a crappy $5 bontrager tire. I was absolutely amazed.
Happy_Gilmore, That guy on the C-dale was in the group patrick and I followed (and passed ). You must have come down right behind us, but just taken lower fall line instead of whatever rediculous trail we took. Good times though, even with the brake/wheel/chainstay carnage going on. I'm very glad I invested in my hardtail though. Reviving an Old Friend This thing felt so much better going down fall line than my fuel for some reason. Who knows.... Also, slightly off topic, were you riding your FOES earlier before the sunday? I think you may have been right behind us on the lifts. I was admiring a nice gray one ![]() |
