Default Fox Oil/Fluid Help!!

I am going in!!

So I am planning on replacing my dust wipers on my fork today and replacing the oil. I have reviewed the Fox website several times and it looks pretty straightforward so I figured I would give it a shot. Today I picked up the dust wiper set at Jenson, but they didn't have the oil or the Float fluid pillow pack.

After calling a few LBS's a mechanic told me to go to one of the many Motorsport places here in temecula and I should find what I am looking for. They said they should carry a 7wt oil for Fox....or other....I am not sure if it matters if it is a Fox product or not?? Also, he said the Float lubricating fluid should be available as well and is pretty standard??

Just curious if I am heading in the right direction or whether or not I should order the crap and waaaiiiitttt!

Thanks.

Fork oils can be kind of thin and dry out very quickly, for the ride of your life try some Dr. Pepper. The carbonation really adds a lot of flavor to short travel forks. If the action is too fast try adding a little white glue which also helps in preventing leaks.

I bought mine at The Path.

......and I have a ridiculous amount left that I'll never use. You only need 1 cap ful of float fluid, so the container doesn't look like I opened it. And the other oil....I think I have enough to do 20 oil changes.

The other problem was finding a mini measuring cup that would do 150ml. I finally found one at Bed Bath and Beyond.

Good luck. If you're in the Orange area I'd be happy to let you use some.

Couldn't find any 5w shock oil anywhere. Ordered it at the Path and still waiting for it to come in.

I always use synthetic moto fork oil. No problems. Just be aware that the 7 wt from one manuf can be dramatically different from the next. I've used 5 wt Maxima with good results in Fox forks.

7 wt vs 5 wt makes a tad of difference.....
if you cant get 5wt, you CAN run 7wt.
You can dial it in with air pressure to make it act about the same.

well i found out that torco racing shock fluid is the same exact thing...fox just resells it. but now, i can't find it any of the motorsports places out here. here is a site that lists other options for fox forks and their mixtures.

the question still lies with the float fluid...it is supposed to be quite a bit thicker then the oil.

Yeah! Everyone knows Mtn Dew is the fork oil of preference. Don't use it in your brake lines--the carbonation is hard to bleed out!

One cannot deny the temperature handling capabilities of all those little bubbles. For my fork it's crystal in one side and sawdust in the other.

P.S. you can always remove the guts of the air valve and pour some stan's in there if you cant wait the weekend.
