Default New Salsa FS 29er - Big Mama

The new Salsa 29er Big Mama is pretty nice looking..but no rear pivot? hmmmmm

very very nice, but I think I'm going to have to get a part time job at a bike shop to afford one...

$1400.00-$1500.00 for the frame!!

No big surprise... the Dos as a soft tail frame is still $999, right? You're getting a rear shock with this one

Sort of surprised they went with the same/similar colors as the current Dos.

It's nice, but nothing earth shattering. Hope someone around here picks one up so we can see it!

Couldnt take the shadowy photo. Wonder what it weighs? It needs a downtube water bottle cage though.

The bike is very well thought out... love the rocker and the rear brake mount.

Can't believe Jason wouldn't spill the name then comes up with "big mama" ? eesh.

Hopefully available in another color option as well. I loved it in black.

I think the price is in the sweet spot... more coin than bargain FS frames, and significantly less than boutiques like Turder or Ells.

Just when I thought 29er chainstays couldn't get any longer Big Mama comes out with 18.5in.

At least it's got a water bottle cage in the front triangle.

Dam, 7lbs. Hope that frame is strong like bull!

Even my HeiHei is 6.6lbs. for a large.

Ahh, whatever, the cool paint will make you forget about 1/2 lb.

7lbs actually isn't that fair out of range for a 4" 29er frame. Turner, Ellsworth, Ventana and Niner are all in that same ballpark depending on size.

If you want a light 29er FS.......there's only one way to go:-)

If I am understanding the article correctly, it doesn't have a pivot near the rear drop out, but it does indeed have a pivot near the BB. Interesting concept. Hopefully it works well.

That is correct......Yeti and Moots have been doing this for quite some time. Yeti has used a ti plate in the past and now uses a carbon section....Moots relies on the aluminum to flex just enough.

I'd buy one!

Check out http://www.salsacycles.com/

The PDF has more pics of the frame. Some cool stuff going on with the construction on this frame. Dual replaceable dropouts, BB/chainstay yoke looks real sick. Guess it's more a All-mtn. 4" bike. Perhaps a good candidate for a Reba 120mm TA fork?

Damnit!!! I just sold 2 bikes + some frames

I thought I had broke the addiction... down to just 1 mtn bike...

but then this comes around + I need to get the girlfriend a bike... maybe a mamasita...

so it looks like I need to buy a mamasita and a Big mama....

oh well we don't need to buy a house any time soon...

They've got some nics pics and animation on the Salsa site.

http://www.salsacycles.com/bigmama08.html#

Edit: the specs on the complete bike says it comes with a black F29 100mm. Probably a typo, but we'll see.
