Default Going tubeless. What tires are good?

So I ordered the DT Swiss tubeless kit for my 4.1 rims today. What are some good tires to use on a tubeless setup like this? Should I order some UST tires?

Currently I have a 2.4 WTB Mutano Raptor up front and a 2.1 Werirwulf in the back.

I'm running the Mutano Raptor up front with Stans (non-UST tire/rim) and no issues what so ever,in fact I'm really loving this set up.

If you like those tires now, just keep them. They should work very well.

All the Tioga brand tires have converted to tubeless flawlessly . So good are the standard tubed tires, that they will inflate without the juice.

The thin plys of WTB tires have given me failures most often . Mostly a massive gash in between knobbies. Others were very pourous sidewalls that would not inflate .

My understanding, though I am sure it works for some people, is that WTB expclicitly states that their non UST tires should NOT be used in a tubeless conversion. Their UST are ok. I would highly recommend you go with UST tires as that is what the DT Swiss kit recommends and while lots of people use Stans (and probably the eclipse-made DT Swiss kit) for non UST tires, it is not optimal, period. Only excpetion would be the Stans rims which have a unique rim lip.

I have had 2 bikes with DT Swiss 4.1d wheels, both of which ran the DT Swiss tubless conversion kit. I still have one of the bikes and on both bike, the setup worked flawlessly.

On one bike (single speed) I ran Schwalbe tires; Jimmy Light UST 2.1 rear / Big Jim UST front. I would not recommend the Jimmy light as it did not hook up well enough in my opinion. Also, while Schwalbe are really good tires, they are expensive and keep in mind their sizes are generally smaller than other brands with that same size listed.

On the other bike (trailbike) that I currently still have, I run Hutchinson Spider 2.3 UST / Spider 2.1 UST and I love them. Not that fastest rolling given the wide spacing but awesome all around tires. If I could only use one tire for all conditions I would use these.

Default Tires

C'mon George - jump on the bandwagon. For you I recommend Kenda Blue Groove 2.35 Stick-E front, and Kenda Nevegal DTC 2.35 or 2.1 in the rear.

Kind of a PITA to get them to totally seal at first but worth the effort in my opinion.

This is step one, next is the 5 Spot

I've been running non UST Kenda tires converted with Stans for almost a year now and have no issues at all. Yes getting the porous sidewalls to seal up at first can be a PITA but once the sealant seals them up they are good to go. Only Kenda tires I've had issues with are the "Lite" series in which I've ripped a couple of sidewalls....1 of them Stan's sealed up amazingly and it held for the rest of the way down Viejo Tie/Chiquita. I would get a 2.35 BG and a 2.1 DTC Neve like Craig said.

I just started using the Kendas with Stans. I got the Blue Groove 2.35 DTC and Nevegal 2.1 DTC for the new Spot. I mounted them both Saturday with only a floor pump and they were sealed by Sunday morning for my ride. I think the soapy water trick helps seat the bead easier, especially with only a floor pump.

Awesome treads!

BTW, I had to get a new BG (sidewall tear, probably from AZ)... I re-used the Stans in the new tire, is that cool???
