Default Rear hub problemo

Hope pro II, all of about a dozen rides on it.

I noticed yesterday when walking my bike my crankset would spin with the rear wheel ala fixed gear-ish if i'm not on it.

I probably did something when replacing the cassette and had the freehub itself and the endcap come off.

anywho, where should i be looking first to fix it?

my I9 for my Niner does the same, but it doesn't bother me so much.
this happened when it was new and still does after being serviced by The Path last month. it would be nice to know what's causing this though.

nah, it worked just fine right off the bat. I know this because there was a handful of times I pushed my bike down the driveway late at night next to the neighbor's window knowing that the sound of the hub is probably waking them up. Now, no more sound.

Sounds like something relatively minor and simple -

Get it in to your LBS to have it looked at; The Path services Hope hubs pretty regularly and they can help...

david, take a look at the plastic seal that is attached to the freehub.. you need to push 3/4 of it into the grove on the hub shell and then use something like a flat head screwdriver to push the remaining part of the seal in. It will snap into place and work like it should..

Hubs are really easy to adjust on your own, just follow these simple steps.

1. firmly clamp in bench vise.

2. Use MAPP gas and a Claw hammer to loosen things up

3. Adjust with a pipe wrench or vise grips

4. Slather everything with crisco for maximum longevity

5. Re-install for the ride of your life!!

To much bearing tension, lack of grease, need of servicing? Time to take it apart.

Having never owned Hopes can't comment. But when my Kings do that it means service time.

Nam (TKBlazer) nailed it. If the freehub came off when you were working on the cassette then the black labirynth seal that goes between the freehub body and the hub shell is not in its correct groove. Using a plastic tirelever or other dull bladed instrument, push one side of the seal into the groove and hold it in place with a finger while you work the tool around the seal, pressing the rest into the groove. This can be a little difficult if you have never done it before but keep at it.

man you guys are awesome.

it was a simple little seal, i could ask how that prevents it from working correctly but that'll probably go over my head. I checked the seal and sure enough about a 1/4 of it was raised out of it's groove. Pushed it in with the screwdriver on my multitool and bam it works sweet sweet buzz of the hubs are back
