Does yours spin freely?? Reason im asking is I built up a hardtail frame when I first bought mine and had it installed with the cranks and it spun really nice. Well for various reasons, before even riding it, I ended up selling that frame and transfering the BB and cranks to a new Santa Cruz chameleon frame and when I would spin the cranks with no chain on, it would feel kinda "thick"
I asked The Path and they told me it would probably loosen up after it has been broken in.... well over a year and many rides later, it still feels heavy or thick when I spin the cranks with no chain on it... It feels consistant the whole rotation so its not like a dead spot... Any idea what could be the cause?? It does have 4 bearings total so Im not sure if internally they aren't lined up perfectly, etc.... |

Mine has always turned free and smooth. Definitely not as smooth as the SL model I have on my geared bike, but the DH model does not feel sticky.
Since it's a sealed cartridge BB, I'm not sure what the problem might be. ![]()

I've had a similar experience. I have a Raceface X-type that sounds exactly like yours. It has a couple hundred miles on it and it hasn't changed. I also have an FSA Mega -Exo that has been smooth as silk since day one.
I once thought that it could have been the bottom bracket shell threads being a bit misaligned but both bottom brackets have been on the same frame. I say just keep riding it until you need new bearings. The only time I've noticed anything with the Raceface is when I've had the chain off and spun the crank by hand. |

It seems that this is "standard" for all Truvativ BBs. I've had three, and a friend of mine has has two, and they all do that. If you're not kicking your pedals back while you're jumping, then it's not really an issue. I don't know why they are like that though. I haven't noticed them being any harder to pedal, though.

My Gigapipe is working great. No issues at all. But it's not the DH model.

drive monkey, drive!

hey neccros, are there spacers invoved?,uh did you titen the drive side before installing the non drive? try loosening the bearings/cups and just put the crankarms on without titening them,then see how it spins. ive not had the pleasure of working on these but maybe these sugs. will help.good luck man.

I actually had the Path install this on an '03 Chameleon and it spun fine, but when I realized during the build that Avid Mechanicals dont work on that design, I bought an '04 Chameleon and again had the Path remove and install the BB on this new frame and thats when I noticed it....
Both fames I beleive had the same sized BB shell |
