Default That was easy. Lunchtime SS conversion

Got a good deal on a rear SS wheel (with an SB 8 thrown in), 20t cog and a used Singulator from the bay. Got the last part in this morning so I went to town on my Vassago in my work partking lot during lunch. I was running the bike 1x9 with a Surly 32t chainring, so the conversion was a snap. Removed the rear derailer, shifter and swapped over the brake rotor. After that is was a matter of throwing on the Singulator and getting the chain to the correct length.

I'm going to have to swap out the chain since the SRAM 991 doesn't like the rear cog, but I should still be able to pull this project off for less than $100 total investment. Of course, since this is just an experiment, it could cost me a lot more since this bike will return to 1x9 at some point and if I catch the SS bug I'll be needing a new frame/fork.

There's a good chance you'll "catch the bug" as it were. I started with a SS conversion, bought a cheap-o 29'er SS and now I'm considering a lighter 29'er SS for racing. It's addicting.

Nice conversion BTW. Enjoy!

Thanks, basically did it for gits and shiggles. I was originally going to convert an old Fisher 29er, but I have that built up for road riding and it would have been a bit more of a pain. This took me less than half and hour.

Also, since I have the bike dialed in pretty mush where I want it I'll have a nice comparison on geared vs. SS.
