I have over the last few rides almost gone over the bars a few times and once I did. I am well aware that part of the problem was me not getting my weight back off the front enough but I am also begining to wonder if part of it has to do with either the bar and/or stem.
What I have right now is a Easton E30 90mm 6 degreee stem with E 30 low rise handlebars. This is on a IH MKIII. I am wondering if a shorter or even greater rise stem or higher rise bars might help keep my weight towards the back some. |

I think it may also have something to do with your bike size and/or saddle to handlebar height ratio...leaving aside riding technique. If you're way too big for your frame, then it may have a factor. If your saddle is way higher than your handlebars, then it may be a factor. I like my saddle about even with the bars, but drop the saddle if I know a long/technical descent is coming up. Other than that, it'll usually be riding technique that's the problem. Along with knowing when to keep your weight back, also remember to keep a low center of gravity while in the attack position during technical descents as well.

I know you really do not want to do it on purpose but if you could get a pic ...
It could also be your fork is to soft or not enough pre-load and/or not enough rebound. If you hit a bump or two or three and the forks pack down and do not get back up in time you have a very good chance to go OTB. I will see if I can dig up a little vid that shows just that. And as mentioned, get yer azz back and low. ![]()
