Doing the 29er thing

Default Kenda 29er tires

I have a pair of the SB8's f/r 2.1 I was thinking would a Karma 2.2 be better for the front? I'm not sure if I like the SB8 in front I think I need more meat up front

in theory, i'd say yes. typically a wider contact patch allows for more stability and grip/bite.

check out the 29er tire thread.

I have been itching to try a SB8 in the rear. I have a Kenda CLAW front i could trade ya.

My favorite front on the 29er scene is the panaracer rampage 2.35

Try out the WTB Weirwolf LT 2.55 up front. I love mine. BTW, I also agree with chewi...The Panaracer Rampage is a great tire...especially for the rear.

I've personally never tried a SB8 up front. It's aight as a rear tire.

considering the 29er wheel has a larger contact patch anyway you should be cool with a 2.2. it's probably similar to running a 2.35 or evan a 2.5. I didn't realize kenda was running the 29ers. They must be awesome!!!

i prefer to have a real tire up front, and i don't consider the SB8 or the Karma real tires.

i suggest using something like already stated on the front:

Weirwolf
Rampage
Nevegal

ultimate front tire: WTB Stout!

WTB Prowler 2.1 might be a good compromise up front.

What kind of bike do you have and what type of riding do you like.

I have two 29'ers and they have four different tires

Never had any luck with the Karma. Tried it few times and never liked the way it felt. As others have siad, the SB8 works good as a rear.

Been using 2.2 Bonty ACX and Maxxis Crossmarks lately and enjoy the feel and rolling of both.

Good point... I have four different/distinct tires on my two 29ers, and aside from one overlapping tire, I think Justin has all different tires as well!

If you ride loose stuff watch out when running the Weirwolf. It wanted to wash out on me. I like the Rampage up front. I run an Exiwolf on the back.

I know it sounds wierd, but have you ever tried running the Weirwolf backwards - as in counter to the rotation arrows when running it on the front. I'm doing that on my FS 26" and it actually works pretty good on loose soil.

Never tried that but I know the 26" version of the Weirwolf is more aggresive than the 29" version. They call the 29" the "LT" and it has less knobs that aren't as tall. I'm a little ticked off at that tire right now. It caused me to go down and mess my leg up pretty good.

We can start a bonfire with the Weirwolf. I'll bring some of my Kendas that I hate as well.

I am running the Nevegal 2.2 DTC 29er on the front and am very happy with it on the trails here in San Diego. I plan on trying the Rampage next to see how I like it.
