Default Reba 29'er coil conversion ride report

Adjustable travel Reba 29'er fork

Ok I have three rides on the conversion (Aliso tour and the SCST twice).

Initial thoughts……….I like it……..like it a lot.

Doing this conversion I was looking for 1. More travel….2 Plusher ride….. and 3. Adjustable travel.

Additional travel

The sag has increased with the conversion (with my weight) so I am not getting the full 110mm. It is closer to 100-105 but now I am using all of my travel.

Feel

This thing is plush and the ramp-up is fantastic. I normally run the rebound on the air Reba wide open fast. With the coil conversion I had to slow down the rebound because it was too active.

Adjustable travel

To my surprise the best thing I like about this fork is when it is at its lowest setting 90mm. Really helps to get more over your cranks on the climbs. Also like the quicker steering for trails with tight switchbacks and turns and 100mm of travel is not needed.

Bottom line is that if your Reba needs service you should consider doing the coil conversion. Air shocks have come a long way but have yet to ride one (Fox, Marz, Manitou, etc..) that rides as nice as a coil.

Yep that .5 lbs really slowed my 225lb carcass down.

The coil increased my total riding weight by .19%

The coil conversion worked so well on my RIP that I am in a quandary on what bike to take to Gooseberry this week. The RIP or the 08 RFX with a Zoke 66.

My thinking is if I don't take the Turner where else will I enjoy all that travel.

257lbs (rider, pack/tools and bike)

Adding .5lbs is only .19% of the total weight. 2/10ths of 1%

I agree, but I have had the RIP out there a few times, never the RFX, so I think the Turner gets the nod this time.
