Default it's that time again: pumps!

ok, so what's good?

I had a Park "home mechanic floor pump" (PFP-3) that met an un-timely demise in a battle against the garage floor this morning due to frustration about the pump head never sitting properly on the valve stem (roadie or mountain, presta or schrader).

it now resides in the trashcan...with a bent everything.

that and the main air seal inside was never quite the same after the last trip to Oregon. Freezing weather is not good for pumps, apparently. note to self: pump stays in the tent. maybe it'll be friendly?

the pump did give me about 3 good years of use, FWIW.

so, what do i do? pony-up for the PFP-4 super-bitchin pro-mechanic? Pedros? something else?

I've had my Pedro's pump for at least 8 years now. No problems.

Jenson had a pretty good deal on the pedros presige (sp?) floor pump last week. It doesn't have as good flow as my blackburn air tower 4, however, at least the pressure gauge works!

I like the basic 20-30$ specialized pump. Works way better than the expensive Wrench Force one. Head interface with valve works great.

I have the Joe Blow and have been happy with it. The only issue is sometimes the valve on the chuck gets loose.

Can't go wrong with the Pedro's pump.

How well does that Blackburn work? I like the idea of a high volume pump for sealing tubeless tires, wondering if this one does the trick.

two words: air compressor.

sealing a tubeless tire onto the rim takes much more air than a pump can put out, in my experience.

Yeah I agree, I routinely take my wheels to the local gas station and drop in a few quarters. The little compressor I keep in my car doesn't work well and I've never had a floor pump that had enough volume.

I've had great luck with a Serfas FMP. The pump head has just one opening, but works great with either presta or schraeder. It pumps a s*** load of air and just keeps working great. Easily the best floor pump I've owned.

I've had my Zefel Double Shot since about 1990. It has taken some serious abuse over the years and still pumps up bike tires. What's really amazing is the design of these pumps hasn't really changed ...

I have a Blackburn Air Tower 5 that I got from Steep and Cheap. It works really well, especially after I figured out that the lock on the head works in the opposite direction from pumps I've used in the past. My Topeak pump is the Joe Blow Sprint and it's also fine. That one graduated to my car. Not as much air volume as the Blackburn, but it works.

I've had the Topeak Joe Blow Sport pump for about 1.5 years now. It sucks...has from day one. The valve thing doesn't like Presta too much, and the occasional Schrader problem too. Always have trouble getting it properly hooked up and pumping. Paid only $30 for it but have often contemplated ponying up $50+ for a good one.

So just wanted to spread the word in case another sucker like me sees it on sale at Performance or something. Don't do it!

we sold the topeak's at REI and we used the returned ones as shop pumps. not a huge fan- about the best thing to do with a topeak was to cut off the head and make a homemade air compressor adapter out of it.

anyone use serfas? silca?

good thread. im in the market for a new floor pump as well. i have a GIANT one that i bought a few years back and it has always sucked! it is nearly impossible to get the chuck on just right and pump freely, there is always some issue with it.
