Default Frame Rack vs Tire

I decided to ditch my sportworks t2 style roof racks for a hitch rack so i could pull into my school parking lot, mc d's etc and not worry about clearance also so i could easily load my 7 point.

I was planning on fabing somehting to use existing carriers or buying the thule t2

but then i noticed the 954 traditional style rack with tons of great looking features for the same price that carriers 4 bikes
4 bikes + 4 people in my scion = a great time

will i regret going fron a tire mount to a frame mount?

any opinion is appreciated

i don't understand what is a tire mount and frame mount. You mean the one where u lock the bike using the fork?

the one where you put the bike on the tray and clamp it down with a pice that slides down on the tire vs lifting the bike onto bars and clinching the frame

he's talking about a hitch rack that the bikes stand up straigh on, or a frame rack that there are two poles sticking out that secure the bike.
I'd say the hitch one where the wheels get secured would be better in the sense that it is harder to scratch your bikes, since the distance bewteen them is set, versus the other one where you slid it on to wherever and they can bump or rub

I'm not sure which model exactly the 954 model is but I have a thule rack (roadway I think?) that supposedly holds four bikes and you get a gold star if you can do it. It comes with four bike holding things but it would be damn hard to actually fit em all on there. I have fit three bikes on there once and it was a PITA.

For the most part I only put two bikes on it and it works beautifully with no bike on bike action. I bought the four bike vs. two bike one knowing this would be the case.

Get a T2 with an extension so you can put 4 bikes on it and it will be better if you want to carry that many, especially big bikes.

t2 with extension ,600 bucks,
300 bucks maybe for roof rack with old attachments
equals me at -300 bucks or so
and the t2 with the extension is going to be near 100 pounds my car has a 200 pound tongue weight, we dont ride weenie bikes so 4 bikes plus a hundred pound rack and where low rider n it

the review looked decent it has stops to keep the bikes from swaying and seperate, i love my sportworks roof racks but need something to fit on the back i may just get cheap and weld up something for my roof racks to fit on the back.;

After looking at the rack you're talking bout it looks like the main difference between mine and that one is that it has the anti-sway cages. I wish mine had em but not a biggie.

I love my rack and I'm sure you can put four bikes on it. I just don't think it'd be much fun. Also take a looksy in the market place, there is someone selling their T2 like rack with extension for $100 I think. If you end up getting the 954 I'm sure you'll be happy with it too. Good luck with the search.

Frame racks are worthless. They don't work for any of my full suspension bikes. I used to have the frame rack. Got rid of it fast. Revisited it recently because my buddy got a Thule frame rack for his hitch for free when he bought his Xterra. My bike won't work on it at all.

Get the 2 bike version that holds the wheels at Performance. It's cheap and awesome. I have the 4 bike version. Been rocking it for 2 years now and all my friends love it and some even went and got their own. Never dropped a bike with it either.

This is us fleeing the SD fires with all my bikes.

My vertical bars fold down, so it's super easy to load the inner bike.

Switching to a fork mount is just a convenience thing. If you have room for your front wheel in your car then I would go that way.

We have the 2-bike version of that Performance rack shown above. It's kinda slender looking, but works great, is super easy to use, to install, to pull off and to fold out of the way. I've carried bikes ranging from my son's mini-mtb to my FS bike and a monster beach cruiser... very secure and easy.

There IS ONE ISSUE: obstruction of the brake lights. This is a real deal. Think about that, and check it.
