I've been living with a scratched face on my computer for quite some time. Traveling at high speeds down the trail while inverted does take it's toll.
Last night I tired of it. Plan A was to use some very fine emery cloth. I forgot where I stashed the super-fine grades, and 600 was just too coarse. Plan B was to use rottenstone (powdered woodworkers polish). First, wet a terrycloth rag with water and dip it in the rottenstone. It takes out the deep scratches nicely, but leavees the plastic looking cloudy. Next, take the terrycloth rag, wet it, and apply a small amount of toothpaste. The toothpaste will clear up the plastic and leave the display quite viewable. The results are not perfectly transparent, like new, but much better than a hard-to-read display. A better finish could surely be achieved with more effort, but I don't care that much. If you don't have rottenstone, you might be able to get the same results using only toothpaste and a little more elbow grease. |
