Anyone have a recommendation for grips for use with and without gloves?
I'm in the process of deconverting my converted SS bike for use as a geared urban trailer-puller. All the grips I have now make your hands smell funny and leave little pieces or rubber shrapnel on your hand when you don't wear gloves. Since my wife and I will be using it for taking the kids to school and grocery store/beer runs, I'd rather not have to mess around with gloves. Thanks.

the older giant grips taht come stock on many bikes are awesome. they have little bumps in them, but once youw ear them down, they are smooth and grip like crazy. They dont chew up your hands, you just get alot of grip.

Avoid ODI Yeti grips if you want to go gloveless. I've been using them for a couple months now and loved them, but recently took a longish ride and didn't bring my gloves (trying to even out the strange tan on my hands). Big mistake. They provide a lot of dampening, but the big thick grippy part really does a number on your hands.
I wager that thinner grips are more comfortable it is going to be if you're not wearing gloves. I'd check out the Lizard Skins Peaty Lock-on |

Ergons! The most comfortable grips for use without gloves bar none. Tried the oury's, ESI's, and others, but the ergon's keeps comming out on top for all except agressive riding. just my two Yen's

+1 for ergon. Actually +3 because thats how many pairs I have purchased.
Some people think they are too large and don't like that they can't wrap there fingers all the way around. Check out the women's size as well, they work much better for some. |

What should I put here?

+2 for Ergons. I hate gloves. I'll wear them for protection on downhill runs or protection from the cold, but otherwise no, and I'll typically spend 6 - 10 hours on the trails on a weekend day, mostly without gloves.
I have two pairs, the regular (original) ergons GP1's: ![]() and a new pair of the FR/DH GE1's for the next build. They don't have the "wing" profile, but are just slightly ovalized. I haven't put much time on them, but am confident they'll perform in the one place where the GP1's have the disadvantage... extremely steep, rough boulder gardens, where you can't get behind the grip as well. ![]()

Ergons are so comfortable, especially on those long, long rides like training for the VQ.
