So I bit the bullet and bought a new set of wheels. I bought a set of Spinergy Xyclone Discs. Here are the stats:
SPOKES PBO FRONT 32 REAR 32 LACING 2-Cross RIM Ultralight, welded disc-specified 23mm rim CLINCHER/TUBULAR Clincher HUBS Custom CNC machined 20mm/QR Convertible Front Hub AXLES Aerospace grade aluminum FREEHUB USA-made aluminum body and pawl carrier COMPATIBILITY Shimano 8/9, International Standard rotor mount SIZE 26" WEIGHT 1695g PBO Fiber Spoke Technology. Every PBO spoke contains over 30,000 strands of polyphenylene bensobisoxazole fiber, delivering 3-times the strength of stainless steel at just half the weight. Finally had them mounted up. I rode on them for a bit yesterday and I could feel the difference immediately. They roll smooth and quiet and the PBO spokes seem to help reduce not only weight, but vibrations. So far, I'm very happy with them. These babies are stout! I just need to adapt my computer spoke pickup to fit the fatter PBO spoke. Here are a few pics: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I'd love a Garmin... I've been eyeballing them on eBay looking for a sweet deal. It may very well be my next purchase. Then I'll become a Geoladder nut!

Looks good!
How fast is the engagement? How much are replacement spokes? They seem to get good reviews on mtbr. http://www.mtbr.com/reviews/Wheelset...t_125348.shtml |

Very cool, definitely saved some weight over the sun/ringles. Just make sure the mag pickup doesn't have any sharp edges to cut into the spokes.
Hope to see you on the trail soon. ![]()

I have about 7,000 miles on a set of those. They rule! Considering how light they are I'm amazed out how much abuse they take. I had about 5,000 miles on them before I needed to true them. (They were still good, just not perfect). I had some much crap around the threads from going through water and mudd and other trail gunk, I broke the nimple because I went straight to trying to tighten. Learned the tip to loosen then before you try to tighten them. Especially if you have a grunch-o-miles on them already.

these are sweet wheels. a friend of mine has them on his race bike and they looked sweet. The machining on those hubs is a work of art in itself
![]() also iirc, i think that spinergy used hadley internals on its rear hubs (at least the later models), but i could be wrong. if so, they're that much better |

The whole bike frame is kinda outside the box... so I figured I'd stay with the "different" theme
While I dig the "King Bling"... I wanted something a bit more unique. ![]()

congrats on the new wheels.
just a word of caution, polyphenylene benzobisoxazole is not light stable and tends to degrade over time, hence why it has been decertified for use in bullet proof vests. any nicks in the external coating could lead to damage by light. i am not sure what type of resin and external treatment they use to make those spokes, so perhaps they have overcome this problem.
