I've got a new bike w/ XTR hydro brakes. One of the pads rubs the rotor when I spin the wheel by hand, and I don't see where to adjust anything. What should I do?
I spoze I could take it to the shop where I just bought it. But if I'm going to put the bike in my car, I want to drive to a trail! Any words of wisdom... ?

is it rubbing constantly or just in one spot of the rotor? if so your rotor might not be true. Also you can move your caliper by loosening the bolts that attach it to the brake adapter.

I pulled my bike out this morning to try the advice I received. But the pad was no longer rubbing! Is it possible that these things change from a hot afternoon to a cold morning? Problem gone, if not solved.
But the other rotor, which was not rubbing, now is just a little (result of a slight warp) Not enough to worry about IMO. Is this the sort of stuff I can expect from big honking 203mm rotors? Seems like a little warpage that would go unnoticed on 160mm rotors will be magnified 25% BTW: Messing with the caliper mounting bolts doesn't seem to be the fix. Any movement I could make would be perpendicular to the movement needed.

Are you running XTR 975 disc brakes? What kind of wheels and hubs? The reason I ask is because I have the above mentioned brakes on XTR 975 wheelsets and want to know if 8" XTR rotors (center lock) are available so I can swap out my 6" rotors for 8" rotors.

Hi, I had the same problem and posted it here a couple of weeks ago: XTR Brake Adjustment
Go through the post and you should get it (start reading from post #6, nintense gave me the tip and it worked perfectly)...all you have to do is reset the pistons, that's it. Good luck! |
