Default Need to rebuild forks - what to buy and where to start?!?!

Hey guys,

My fork bit the big one (it's leaking oil all over the place) and I don't have the money to buy a new one. I called around and Performance wants about 130 to overhaul it with new seals. I'm assuming I can do it myself for less, but I'm not sure how, what tools I might need, and exactly which parts to buy!

The fork is a Rock Shox Duke SL, 100mm, air/oil. There are other forks I could buy in the $150 range, but they all weigh close to 5 lbs (this one is 3.85 lbs). So I'd rather rebuild it.

If you go to the Jenson USA website and type the word "Duke" in the search field, you get the following rebuild parts:
http://www.jensonusa.com/store/produ...+Seal+Kit.aspx
http://www.jensonusa.com/store/produ...rvice+Kit.aspx
http://www.jensonusa.com/store/produ...shing+Kit.aspx

...which of these are necessary for an adequate rebuild? Do I need all 3 to do a complete job? And also, are there walk-thrus online? It doesn't seem like to complex a device, I would just love some tips or directions if they exist! Any info is appreciated. Thanks!

The day I threw by Duke's in the trash and bought some good forks was a GOOD day.

The good news for you is that the rebuild instrucions are online. The fork isnt too complex so I think you could do it. I took apart my old Duke just to look at it.

Thats all I've got for you though. I'd buy new, although I feel your pain on the money.

good luck
