Default 29er wheelset for my build??

I am starting a 29er build plan and need some help. I am going to build around a medium Niner M.C.R. and need some help picking out a wheelset. What is a good wheel in the bang for buck categorie. I am a little more concerned about weight than strength as I am fairly light (145lbs) and will not be hucking anything big.

I also need input on forks: F29 vs Reba

I await your expertise!!

As far as I know, there is no Talas 29er fork. You would be looking at the F29 which is available in 100 and 80mm travel. It is not an adjustable travel, but still a great fork. I think most guys are using the 100mm travel model, as it has the 500mm axle to crown. I think the reba is 494ish. If you have the cash, I would go for the fox over the Reba.

But what do I know, I'm a stupid kid.

I say save money on your fork (go Reba) and get a better wheelset. Bontrager Race Lite's are good for the money IMO (if you don't have a grip to spend on wheels), and have stood up to Justin's beating on them for racing, etc.

If you are building your own, I dunno. Arch's will be slightly more durable, but 355's are LIGHT.

Are you looking to build your own custom or go with pre-built?

But as donkey told me...the 355s are only going to save ~20 grams per wheel...I'd rather get something a little stronger. I got the Arch's with Hope Pro IIs.

And, schlepp, the Fox all the way! That thing was bomber this weekend going down Ramona trail...never let me down (yet) and I don't expect it will.

Nope, just doing my part for the economy.

I am only looking to spend about 500 on the wheels. So we will see what happens. It may take me a while to get it all together.

I hope to get the frame, fork and wheels all at once so I can get some sort of break on the price.

Although it never gets mentioned, I think the White Brothers Magic IMV is a great fork and is probably more comparable to the fox's performance.

I can see you being all over the next Path sale Remember, if they are having an in-store sale you can always call!

FWIW, I say definitely look into Bontrager Race or Race Lite wheels. Good bang for the buck IMO.

If you are looking to save some $$ (especially with a new baby in the house) I say get the Reba, get a wheelset like the Bonti's, or even American Classics (both light weight and won't set you back $700+).

Frame, that is up to you. There's always the Zion/On*One frames for super cheap, or you do Niner, or even check out the VooDoo's. Salsa. Up to you. They run the gamut on pricing.

You can get Stan's Arches on Hope Pro IIs from Adrenaline for $475. I ordered mine and they are on the way.

I have the Bonty Race Lites right now (not the X-Lites) and they are OK, but you can't run them tubeless and they do not roll as smoothly as I would like. I think I need to service the hubs, but they are not that old.

You also have to pay for spokes, nipples, and a build (IIRC spokes/nipples can be over $100 ? Not sure). I have no idea how much build's cost.

Custom wheelsets are always gonna be better, but you'll pay for it as well.

Sam's price of 475 for that build included everything (which is a little more than $50 less than somewhere else ), I know this because i'm doing the same build but no one has those damn rims in stock!
