recently i've been doing quick 8 mile or so loops at aliso after to get in some sort of riding and havent brought my camelback with me. The first time i loaded some necessities in my pockets of my cargo shorts. Today I purchased an saddlebag but it doesnt seem to be ok in terms of storage but I dont want a bulky thing either.
What do you carry brand and size wise so i can look at those. thanks!

Interesting foo! ( I have no right to stop posting, or the will power
) I have never tried long rides with water bottles. My body seems to need alot of fluids.I drink at least a 2 quart pitcher of water a day ( when not riding) along, with Oj, Ice tea ect.... I have tried just one water bottle on the loop with a seat bag and 3 miles in I was almost out of water. So for peace of mind I carry 100oz for even the shortest rides.

Years ago there was this great company called Jannd... they made all kinds of very cool and functional nylon accessories for mountainbikes. I used to use a mid-size under saddle pouch. This was years before Camelbaks. Now I pack everything into the Camelbak to keep the bike as light as possible. For short rides I have a under-saddle pouch from Genuine Innovations that includes CO2 inflator (w/extra cartidge), patch kit, and 2 tire levers. I think it cost $15-20.

I have been trying to lighten the load on my back but I, like bighit8 seem to drink a lot of water. I switched my camelback with storage to strictly a 100oz water pack and have started to store tools and supplies under the seat in this:
http://www.topeak.com/products/detail/42 It clips in and out from under your seat real easy and you can get different sizes. This one has worked great so far... |

i saw that topeak and it's pretty cool
I do like this one...is this the one you're referring to art23? http://www.jensonusa.com/store/produ...tion+Seat.aspx for extended rides i'll of course bring the camelback but like i said it's really nice to ride without a pack on the back it's quite liberating. Also, when i ride the 29'er i'd like to keep a stash of inner tube a 15mm box wrench for the rear wheel and the all important garage door opener when i get home I'm sure as summer sets in i'll be wearing a pack again

I have a Jandd Mini Tool Kit Bag that I can squeeze one tube, a Co2 with air chuck, and a couple small tire irons. That and a bottle of water is good for a short ride. If I want to carry anything else I'll use my pockets. I typically keep everything in the Camelbak though and take the bag off.

I've been able to get by with my jersey pockets on short rides. Multi-tool, patch kit, wallet, cell phone, keys, gels, go in the jersey and a large water bottle on the down tube. Feels nice to have your back get some cool air.
I can't use a seat bag because of the license plate. ![]() Last edited by 1FG rider; 04-05-2008 at 09:59 PM. Reason: i can't spell |

I have had my little bag since then. I was off the bike for a long time though so it's still in great shape. Really well made products.

I think it's Specialized, not their smallest one. I carry a tube, a CO2 inflator, a multitool, a little screwdriver, a couple paper towels, a business card, a chain link, and a patch kit. I also carry a small hand pump. That's it.

![]() This is the bag I use. It's really big, I can fit 2 inner tubes, a multi tool, tire levers, air pressure gauge, some zip ties, and some velcro straps and there's room for a lot more. It has 3 zippers and the bottom most zipper expands the bag doubling the amount it can hold. On the web site it's $26, but I got it on sale at Two Wheels One Planet for $25. ![]() http://www.specialized.com/bc/SBCEqP...jsp?spid=25160

In small Cannondale pack (smaller than the Spec photo) -- Crank Bros multi-tool w/ chain tool, coupla full size hex keys, torx key for brakes, mini-crescent, patch kit, several inches of ss safety wire, several zipties, derailleur hanger & screws, chain link, one tire lever -- packed tight so no rattles.
In small camelbak -- 20-60+ oz water as needed, spare tube, drivers license & $20bill, baggie w/ mini 1st aid kit (big adhesive patches, knuckle bandages, a sanitary pad (Kotex) for big wounds, tape, rescue whistle, small sharp knife, painkillers), cell phone, car key. Sometimes an energy bar or armwarmers. On bike -- mini mtn pump, one small bottle of energy drink In pockets -- bandanna, trail map if needed. Sounds like a lot, but it's not really. |

Currently use a Jandd mini mountain wedge (53 in^3 capacity). I can fit a a spare tube, multi-tool, tire levers, co2 + 4 (12 gram) cartridges, patch kit and car keys. Check out speedgoat.com or aebike.com for Jandd products, as it seems like Jenson doesn't carry them (saddle bags) anymore.
Hey, I'd hate to point this out, but how much room is that spare 29er tube taking up? You should just upgrade to a 26er, or just put it in your jersey pocket. Or just skip the tube altogether and use this as an excuse to go tubeless. |
