Default PSA: Panaracer 29" Rampages and Stan's

Here's the equation:

29" Rampage + Stan's No Tubes + American Classics =

NIGHTMARE.

I'd explain more, but I have to go kill myself. Thank you.

Stanz conversions always have the potential for adventure. Some rim and tire combos are worse than others. There is always somone who has "never had a problem"(with such and such combo). Then there is always somone who did have a problem. Just because you have never had a problem does not mean that you never will.

I like stanz, but I have been yelled at more than once by angry customers after I sold them Stanz.

I am trying it on my new wheels (being built now) but they are Stan wheels. I hope I will be in the "never had problem" group. I will keep you posted.

Results are much better if you use his rims, and not just a conversion kit.

Have you tried leaving it aired up with a tube overnight first?

How about soapy watter on the bead?

You can put some weather stripping under the rim strip. This creates a tighter fit, and helps with inflation.

did not try leaving a tube in overnight... I'll try that tonight. I did use soapy water though... is that supposed to help it seal?

Choc are you using a compressor to air up or a floor pump? Unless your tire is a super tight fit on the rim e.g. Bonty DryX tires on Stan's. You probably can't get it to seat and air up with a floor pump.

Also make sure the valve stem you are using is tight so the there's no leak there either.

LOL.. floor pump. And, I was doing it in the shower (soapy water), so the I had to hold it off the ground!

So, far from ideal. The guy who sold me the bike is going to hook it up for me.

a spray bottle filled with soapy water is fine, no need to do it in the shower.

I've managed to seat a weirwolf LT in the arch with a floor pump and yellow tape

However, trying to mount my rampage to a Velocity Dyad has given me some problems. I ended up going with the 29er rim strip over top of a regular rim strip. I siliconed the valve in. I have to use a CO2 cartridge to get it to seat, but after that I can pump it up with a floor pump to keep pressure and work the stans magic to get it to seal.

I have to say though that the shot of gas to get it to seat is imperative. Either through an air compressor or whatever.
