So I bought a DJ bike, Jamis komodo. I have cranks, bar, fork ( may upgrade latter). I need a wheel set (including hubs), Drive train, brakes and a seat.Im thinking single speed, but I think A 1x9 set up may be better. Give me your thoughts!
Thanks

I run a 1X9 on my 4X bike and love it. I'm also running Bombshell Fatdaddy's (cheap and bombproof) but heavy. X7 shifters will do just fine. And as far as brakes it doesn't really matter IMHO, you don't use em much anyway...
Juicy 3's will cut the cheese just fine. And a seat is preference. I run a Funn RL skinny saddle and like it. I'm sure you've seen pictures of my bike. ![]()

Weight is not an issue, just want to build a fun strong bike.
Ok here it is so far 1) bombshell fat daddys 2) 1x9, I already have a lx rear derailueller I did not sell, so that is a good keep! 3) ?????

Is the fork 20mm? the Bombshells have a conversion thing but they are not included I think. Is the lx rear a short cage? And what terrain are you mostly going to ride? I find the Nevegals and Small block 8's are fantastic on hard pack. The Larsens work pretty good also. And BMX style stuff some people runn highrollers (those checker board style knobs) time for some 4X at Fontana eh? My bike is build pretty heavy and it's still only 30lbs. Doesn't feel like 30lbs though because I push around a 43lbs DH bike for fun.

Yeah it will be DJ bike only! I weigh about 150 so I dont need bomb proof hard core stuff. The lighter the better, and the cheaper the better!
The fork is a suntour duro, not sure of the travel. Oh and the LX is a medium, and Fontana is a for sure once the build is done! ![]()

If its DJ only, stick with single speed. You save a lot of weight and hassle. You also don't need to worry about chain slap.

sounds like an awsome build. if I had the means I would want to make something up similar. I say 1x9 but just in case you decide you want it for something other than DJ. Good luck with the build.

I went SS when I built one of those up a while ago. The total build cost me 400$ and I sold the bike on EBAY for 575$
I went with WOOdman Bill Single RSN rear hub (SS) WOOdman LTI front hub (can be used as a qr or 20mm t/a) Single Track rims 32h Pauls "MELVIN" tensioner Azonic DH chain ring 34t Hope Mini rear brake, no front brake Seat - I hit up the LBS and went through their discount bins and found something light and cheep as I never sit when jumping or at the track. You could get a specific DJ dtyle seat but I do not like them. I now you already said you have a fork but I ran a DJII Here are the hubs and tensioner I used WOOdman Hubs ![]() ![]() Pauls Tensioner ![]()

yeah, i suppose i'll second everything in here:
for straight DJ build: -SS, probably a 2:1 ratio or so. -azonic outlaws (strong and can be converted if need be) -seat, just get something that you can stand to sit on, even if not pedaling. I find myself sitting in a circle on bikes talking with people at DJ type things. -brakes, i would just go with BB7s with a long cable up front (barspins baby!). If you go hydro, you run the risk of pinching a line, and that sucks (I've seen it happen) If you may do 4X type stuff: -1x9 -outlaws will still work -seat wont be sat on, get something cheap -brakes, consider getting cheaper hydros a la juicy 3 or 5 |

If you can swing it, I'd ditch the suntour for a Fox Van 32, assuming you won't be casing everything in site. Being able to drop the travel on the 32, a good selection of spring rates, and the relatively light weight, it makes a good DJ fork for someone your weight.
For wheels, the Azonic Outlaws, Transition Revolutions, or even Forte' Loco's. They're all pretty much the same wheel set. Chris |

Outlaws are great. I have a SS tensoner for you if you want it. I might be back on ss with my blakc market soon I dont really shift in 4x anyways. That fork works fine for Dj stuff but is stiff and heavy for serious 4x I run a 32/16 when I use SS and its perfect for orange Y, fontana, and random skate park sessions
