Duan'er - 29'er remixed

a wheelset for 29'er. Is it possible to have a decent light yet strong wheelset built for that price?
I was thinking Hope's to start...or is there something else? I like Kings but it's a bit steep. I want to be able to run these as SS for now and if I want to go 1x9 i can slap on a cassette later. Thoughts? |

I do have $500 to spend on a 29er wheel set and I ordered red Hope Pro IIs, Stan's Arches, black Revo Spokes, red nipples.
Arches are back ordered so I should have them in May. Neil at Adrenaline was great about this order and gave me the best price of any shop (and I shopped around a lot). I love doing business with them. Word.

Sam, I'm doing Hope Pro IIs (blue) with Stan's Arches too. My rims aren't backordered, though?
I was going to do 355's but those were going to take longer to come in... Quote:

No, hence me EP'ing them for that price. That was a lame attempt at humor on my part.

Hope Pro2's on Flows would come in under $600 bucks I'm sure. Probably around 1900-2000grams which is totally decent for a 29er wheelset. I have Hope Pro2's on arches and they came in around 1850grams for the set.
I think the wider stiffer Hope Flow rim is worth the 50-60gram weight penalty per rim. How wide are these new Mavic rims? Haha Foo, the new bike has already started. You're going to collect wheels and all these other parts and next thing you know you'll have a complete 29er FS rig. I need to change my poll response to 1MO till Foo sells his Ellsworth for a 29er FS.

Another option would be the newer XTR hubs. While not as bling as some other options out there, they have decent points of engagement (36) and they're fairly light (145g front, 270g rear) and can be found for around $200 on eBay. The hub shell is Ti too.
It's a bonus if you use Centerlock rotors, but if you don't, you can always get the Centerlock to 6-bolt adapters. I paired mine up with some Stan's Arch rims and DT Competition spokes. I didn't get them on a scale, but they should be in the 1800g range. Figuring about $70/rim + about $60 for the spokes and nipples, you'll be coming in around the low $400 range. |
