I’ve been think of running full length cable housing on my bike to prevent excessive dirt/mud getting in the housing, before I do I would like to know what are the Pros and Cons of running full length housing.

thanks for asking the question- i've been wondering the same thing as I've got housing end issues on one of my bikes.
basically, i didnt put one of the little plastic end thingies on some housing and it's coming un-twisted thru the cable stop. doh! too bad it's a ti frame- drilling them out would be a royal biznatch.

I'm running it. Exertion required to shift is lessened a bit and definitely keeps dirt out. Pros is that it kicks ass and never needs maintenance. Cons is that you need to either zip tie it to the frame/cable stops and/or get those sticky things that stick to your frame to give you a mounting point for your housing.
Do it. You won't regret it. If it tells you anything, I noticed a lot of new Specialized bikes coming with full housing. |

I've run full and partial housing on M970 shifters. It was faster with partial housing for sure but then again it needed cleaning all the time. Better with full housing IMO.

So this begs the question, if full cable housings are so great, why do so many manufacturers go with partial housings? It seems like it would be easier on a mass production line to run full housings and not mess around with breaks. Just curiosity here as I will be going to full housings soon.

You can run Dry Cables which are designed for full housing. You don't need to drill or zip tie anythinig.
