Default Who is running full length shifter cable housing

I’ve been think of running full length cable housing on my bike to prevent excessive dirt/mud getting in the housing, before I do I would like to know what are the Pros and Cons of running full length housing.

thanks for asking the question- i've been wondering the same thing as I've got housing end issues on one of my bikes.

basically, i didnt put one of the little plastic end thingies on some housing and it's coming un-twisted thru the cable stop. doh! too bad it's a ti frame- drilling them out would be a royal biznatch.

I'm running it. Exertion required to shift is lessened a bit and definitely keeps dirt out. Pros is that it kicks ass and never needs maintenance. Cons is that you need to either zip tie it to the frame/cable stops and/or get those sticky things that stick to your frame to give you a mounting point for your housing.

Do it. You won't regret it. If it tells you anything, I noticed a lot of new Specialized bikes coming with full housing.

I am. Have been on the Yeti and the Socom. No problems to report and we're at about the 6 month mark.

My RD is a full length housing on the Yeti 575.
Can't say I notice any difference other than I don't have to clean it.

I've run full and partial housing on M970 shifters. It was faster with partial housing for sure but then again it needed cleaning all the time. Better with full housing IMO.

So this begs the question, if full cable housings are so great, why do so many manufacturers go with partial housings? It seems like it would be easier on a mass production line to run full housings and not mess around with breaks. Just curiosity here as I will be going to full housings soon.

Full housing and split housing will shift well either way. Split housing is cleaner, lighter and will allow slightly better shifting sue to less flex from the housing. Shifter housing is stiffer than brake housing but still can create some issues with a "slower" feeling shift. Regularly cleaning and lubing of the cables works well as does full housing. I don't care for the zip tied look, othes do. You can't go wrong either way. If full housing was better pro teams would do it in muddy xc events.

Tradition is my guess. How long have full cable housings been in use?

You can run Dry Cables which are designed for full housing. You don't need to drill or zip tie anythinig.

Full cable housing is the best for DH and Free ride.
Weight weenies don't like it.

I like it. I will be putting full cable on my SS hard tail soon to be a 1X9er.
