Find out the make and model of the tubing used in the manafacturing then look up said make and model via the internet. The tube companies will have the thickness of the metal posted on their web site. Unless, of course, it's a company secret, then you'll never know.

Check out:

Easton
Reynolds

For more information.

different materials are going to be different wall thicknesses and also different thicknesses in diffeent places that is way there are sp many prototypes before a production model is made, like i told you before if you want to build your own bike thats way cool but dont expect to save any money and the first couple frames will need refining.

Call the company? Thats what I would do. I have a book or two on the metallurgy of bicycles but the manufacturers do things a bit different in terms of thickness of a frame. It will very between model, shape and type of metal used for the tubes, which tube, there may be a different thickness for the top and downtubes then the seat and head tube, etc.

edit: Rock and Bob were a bit faster then I.

It could cost many thousands to build your own frame. The jigs alone could cost you some serious cash.
The DH company, K9industries, is some 85,000 British pounds into the development of their two prototype downhill specific frames. (Well...carbon fiber isn't cheap!)

Dialled spent two years developing their steel 4x frame and had to go through 4 models before the Holeshot was finalized. Total cost: 14,554 British Pounds.

Sometimes...it's better to just buy a frame!

You need to research what you want to do with the tuing. What kind of riding, rider, and stresses will the frame endure.

There's a lot of science that goes into this whole frame building business, B.
