Default creaking...

anyone ever experience creaking coming from their bottom bracket area? when i was building the bike i would notice it would make a slight creak when i spun the cranks by hand with no chain on it or anything but just ignored it but i noticed it today as i rode, every so often it would creak on my strokes. only when pedaling though. anyone else have this happen to them? maybe my BB is too tight?

yea it was weird i was just riding on pavement and it started up. and it was only on pedal strokes. and in anygear. and it sounds familiar to what it was doing when i was building it up so im assuming its either too tight or loose or something... i just ordered a crank arm remover

I hate creaks, totally screws with my grove...I even hate riding with peoples bikes that creak. I sold my first bike, a GT I-drive because, I could not get ride of creaks.

I have found the most common place for creaks is the seat post. Take it out, grease it and replace. Cranks bolts are another commonplace for creaks. Again take apart and grease. Creaks are a pain to find because they travel along the frame and sometimes the part that sounds like it is creaking is not were the creak is.

Good Luck!

I would also say a common cause of creaks is the bottom bracket needing to be re-seated. You need to remove the cranks to do it. You need a crank remover and a bb tool (special socket, about $10). I think you are on the right track. Park tools repair site has good instructions.

I just use the grease off of my pizza. I hold the slice above the bottom-bracket and fold the slice in half the long way and let it drip into place.
