I found the grip shifts to get hard to twist after a while, so I cleaned them out and they worked fine again for a few weeks, then became even harder to twist. Cleaned them again and same deal, about a month later I could barely twist so I went to the triggers and I love them,so far so good.

Another XO gripshift guy... I came from X9 and X0 Triggers. I still like triggers, but for speed, lighter weight and more presicion, the XO Gripshifters are hard to beat. Plus I think it cleans up the handlebar. Good luck on your decision.

I love my XO GS. I can dump a bunch of gears in a hurry, the front trim is nice in certain situations, they are light, simple and just flat out work.

I started with triggers (rapidfire), then got GS on my 99 c-dale, got used to them, tried to go back to RF and realized I like the gripshift better. YMMV.

Some people use a RF rear shifter and a gripshift front shifter.

Not sure it helps your decision, but I ride and like both. I have triggers on my trailbike and gripshift on my XC bike.
Triggers seem to shift quicker and more precisely when they're in perfect adjustment. The advantage to the gripshift is when something is not quite right (i.e. slightly bent derailleur, stretched cable, muddy, etc.) the gripshift is more tolerant in that you can actually go slightly past the gear to get it to shift and then let it back to the stop.

I have used both.
I liked my grip shift a lot they always worked.
The only problem I have had with gripshift is I forgot my gloves and my hands got sweaty and I had a slippery time shifting.
I think overall I like Sram X9 or X0 thumb shifters the best .
