It all depends on the amount of sag you want and different frames have different leverage ratios so someone of the same weight on a different bike could use a higher or lower spring rate. since you are racing DH, you could go with more than the recommended sag. sorry, I do not know the recommended sag for the judge.

jonathan_sykes81 is correct. It all depends on your frame. Different frames have different leverage ratios. For the most part, for DH riding you want about 30-35% sag although some, like the Santa Cruz V-10, recommend 40% sag. Again, check with your frame manufacturer.

I put a Fox Vanilla on my Reign tonight with a 500# spring. It actually felt too soft surprisingly. I thought it would be way too stiff, because all the calculators I used said to use 400# for my weight. Playing around in the street, I checked my travel, and it turns out I'm not using my last inch of stroke, which is like 3". It almost seems like 400# would be way too light and make it bob, what do you guys think?
