This saturday night I went to Robs and finally changed the oil in my 03 Marzocchi Z1 FR coil fork. I never changed the oil in that thing and I was feeling that it wasn't performing like it should be. (I've had it just over a year now) The small bump sensitivity just wasnt there. So, I finally got around to buying some 5W Golden Spectro fork oil from a motorcycle shop ($8.95 for a quart) and drained the VERY dirty grayish/black 7.5W oil from my fork and then put in 100cc's of the fresh 5W oil. This fork has just been reborn! It is so plush and I'm kicking myself for not doing this earlier! I can't wait to ride Lynx and Rock-It and the Luge on this thing!
If you've never changed your fork oil, I'd recommend doing it. The process wasn't too difficult. Luckily for me Rob has every tool known to man and a kick ass stand to put the bike in which made it fairly easy. ![]() |

I have the same fork and would like to know what steps to follow to change the oil. My fork also seems to be weak on bump sensitivity. Any detailed help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks In Advance

Rob, maybe you should make a sticky post of repair/maintenance things you can do for people and what you would charge (of course with a discount for str members
).

KIPPER, go to the Lets Talk About Shocks forum on mtbr and ask what kind of oil people are putting in their Fox shocks, although I'm sure Rob has some, its probably best that you buy your own, or he might just include the cost of oil into the fee he charges to do the oil change....I know on my Marzocchi I used Golden Spectro, 5w, like buttah!

I'm not doing your shopping for you also
7.5wt is stock in the Fox forks, however since you aren't a really heavy guy I'd recommend going with 5wt. You'll have a little better small bump compliance, I ran 5wt and also tried 2.5wt in my old Talas (wouldn't recommend 2.5wt though). Golden Spectro is what I use, I do have some 5wt in my garage already. PM me and we'll set up a time. |
