Default Garmin Edge 205 vs 305 question

After perusing several sites and various forum threads, I still can't figure out if the Edge 205 can keep track of a ride's elevation ascent and descent totals. I see that the 205 does not have a Barimetric Altimeter, but that the 305 does. From what Garmin's site says, it appears that the 205 will give you your current elevation but you need the 305 if you want to keep track of elevation gains and losses. Does that sound right? Can some of you Edge owners chime in?

Check this link where all the "stickys" are. There is one on the Garmin.

You're right if you mean gain/loss reported during the ride.

When you upload to a computer the 205 gets elevation from the GPS but that data is not as accurate as the barometric altimeter, in fact it's practically junk.

If you want accurate ascent/descent get a 305.

(Did the sticky answer your question?)

Excellent. Thanx. No, the sticky did not answer my question...but it did point me toward Geoman! I'm gonna order up a 305!
