Default Squeaky ride

Hello all. I'm new to this forum, so I hope that I posted this question in the right thread subject. I've been riding for years, but got my first FS just a couple of weeks ago. I have riden it twice on the trail, and both times in the semi muddy trails. My FS seems to ride good till I hit mud or water or both. And once it does it seems to have a perpetual squeak. Is this normal?
It's an irritating and persistant sound. Any cures for water/mud riding?
BTW it is a 06 Stumpjumper FSR S-works.

Thanks in advance.

Dont ride in the mud, It ruins the trail! Sounds like water is getting somewhere. Try some light grease over exposed areas to keep water out. For real though, try to stay off wet trails, some people are very serious about this.By the way WELCOME, cool peeps here.

PS. I cannot pinpoint source of the squeak sound. When I get off the bike and out of the saddle I cannot reproduce the sound by pressing down on the front or rear suspension, but the sound appears to be coming from the rear part of the bike, when riding. Sound is heard in and out of the saddle and when pedaling and coasting, but more pronounced when pedalling.

Check youre seat post. Also, off the bike, stand on one ( in the 6 O, Clock position) pedal and push down, then switch to the other side. Sounds like it is from the bottom bracket.

Clean and lube your chain...or it could be a misaligned disc brake caliper.

Or if the main pivot wasn't lubed well from the factory it could need to be regreased.

It appears that water and mud got into somewhere. Even the dried mud or dirt caused the problems. Because it was bone dry with dried mud/dirt and still squeaky a lot. I cleaned the bike up and the sound is gone. Any thoughts on where to add light grease to?
I know to add Tri-Flow to the usually drivetrain areas, but new to FS. Add light grease to outter shock sleeve, and rear pivot points or where?

Also, BigHit8 I don't ride in mud or mud bogging, just been riding on trails with some rain puddles not dried up yet and unavoidalbe muddy areas in those puddles. I don't like wrecking trails.

Default elimination of the unfit

Noises from my bike drive me crazy! your ride is fairly new. The early special ed bikes, and most others for comparison, made lots of noise.

seat post, bottom bracket and pivots. Clean and lube separately to find the culprit. Do not do all at once. If you do, you will not find the cause.

If all three check out, next is crank arms and pedals then seat rails.

Listen for the slightest change in tone...then you know the source.

If all else fails turn up the volume in your ipod.

Default make a bike wash...

It will take the dirt out and leave the pivots clean (don't use high pressure hose).
When the bike is dry, lube the chain and the derailleurs pivots.
You can also check if all the pivots bolts are tight.

Sounds like everyone has shared the usual suspects. I would add rear brake to the list. Adding water/mud to a rear disk that may already have a slight drag makes an awful howling sound. Clean the pads well and make sure the caliper is perfectly aligned.
