Default Looking for a frame <$800

been wanting to build up another bike, but have this one more XC oriented, i.e. not as bulky as my Kona Dawg Supreme. Winning the x0 drivetrain on Saturday has put this idea into reality now...

Came to the conclusion I wanted a hardtail, or at most, at soft tail.

Frames that I've considered:

Yeti ARC

Salsa Dos Niner

Niner Air 9

but that's about where my quick search has stopped.

Price is flexible within $100 or so, and no preference between a 29er or not. Just something light highly preferred

IF you wanted to go a way over that.. you can try the new Foes Prolite XC
its a pretty sick frame but it'll cost ya 1099

I also want a Air-9 and had one in the works. Broke my 5-Spot frame it changed my plans.

Air-9 $749 for a new frame, (from Niners website).

I think the Air 9 is the light weight of the bunch you mentioned....

Air is slightly lighter than the Dos, but at least with the Dos you have the angry inch

Justin went from his steel SIR9 to the Dos and is liking the extra cush, I think.

Not sure they can be had for under $800, so it almost seems like you already made your choice.

the front runner in my mind has always been the Dos since I've started toying around with this idea a while back. That inch seems to be why i keep looking at it

and i'm on the kona website now trying navigate my way through there....

why not buy that bubbs kikapu he is selliing in our classifieds and overhaul the components. i think he is only asking $550, that leaves you some money for upgrades. (not sure what size you need though, i think his is a large)

What's the frame weight on your current bike? I'm guessing you aren't looking for FS?

Are you racing SRC this weekend at all? I believe Justin will be out there on the Dos if you want to spin it around.

Or my Norco! Only $375. The money you save will go to some nice light hoops.

Norco XC Full Suspension Frame 4 sale "Large"

But if you're looking for something for short XC races. Hardtail at 3-4lbs. hard to beat.

PS sorry for the plug.

Niner Air9 is my vote, but I am biased because I just got one last week. They can be had for less than $700 if you know where to look. PM me if you need more info.

I love my Air9. It rides very smooth for a hardtail. I demo'd a Gary Fisher Paragon and it was pretty harsh of a ride. It's hard to describe, but I guess the best way to say it is that my ass is not sore after riding 65+ miles in the past 5 days on the Air9.

after some searching it looks like 7.5 lbs. The tubed mavic 819's I run as well don't exactly make this thing light.

No FS. Heck it was even a decision as to whether to go rigid as well. And yeah, i'll see you out there again Saturday all day. I'll be bumming around

you sir have a PM.

oddly enough there's only 2 Niner dealers within 50 miles of my house. The one in Santa Monica I've heard bad things about, the other one, gets good reviews.
