Default Fourcross/Dual Slalom Forks

Ok so i know that the marzocchi 4x, the Pike, And the Argyle Etc are used as fourcross forks.
My questions is, since fox doesnt make a 4x fork, i was trying to decide if the fox F80, F100, or F120 forks would work to race fourcross.. i know it says cross country, But i coulodnt imagine 4x being too rough on a fork since most of the time the goal is to be smooth.
anyways like i said i was just curious, im bored sitting here after i finished my homework and got to researching...
thanks!

I think it just needs to be tuned a little more. I thought it was way to stiff (I weigh 200 pounds) not sure what Ricky weighs but he can't be heavier then me. Even when I rode it I could only get about 2/3 of the travel out of it. Give it time and see if he still hates it.

As for the Fox I would say the 36 talas cranked down (I think they go down to 110mm).

if its an 07, change out the oil in it to a lighter weight oil. i believe the stock marz fork oil is 7.5wt. my friend did that on his 07 4x and it made a world of a difference.

I think Ricky's 4X is a 2007 model. I understand they were significantly improved for 2008. I rode his bike before the Riot was built up with his 4X fork. I didn't care for it either. I was guessing that an oil change or different oil weight may help.

The Fox 36 Talas can be cranked down to 100 mm. I believe some people are lowering (modifying) the Float 36 down to 80 mm.

If you deplete the air out of the left leg and drop the right to 32 psi, you've got yourself a fairly tuned fork.

As for 4X and DS specific forks, they're is only one fork on the market that states that one perticular use and it's fairly limited on ride options.

I've now ridden and tested several forks for Dual Slalom and 4X and I can honestly say that 100mm is your best bet, 32mm with QR's handle very well, but the 20mm tru-axle is the king if you want a fork that can track without shuffling. (Check out the run-on sentence! YEAH!)

36mm is a bit overkill and you've got the weight to deal with, but it's solid. Very solid. Heavier riders and riders that rely on brute force will really dig on these forks.

Caution!!!! Front QR's have been known to come loose. Always check your gear before you ride/race!

As for me-it's my Manitou Minute with the Absolute Dampning all the way! WOO!

depends on the year, the pre 07 ones you should be able to adjust the spacers to bring it back down to 100mm from 120-130mm.

lee, the 07s have a crappy damping cartridge that does not have independent compression/rebound adjustments like the 08 has.

I agree with changing the oil weight on Marz forks. Especially if you are a lighter rider like I am, I had to change to 5wt Golden Spectro oil on my AM SL and it made it from a crappy fork into a super plush awesome fork.

185 so im not heavy but not that light feels like the oil may be a little low because it has no real compression dampening and fast rebound I was so angry at that bike yesturday I came home and took all the gears off and switched it to a SS. Nothing has worked right on that frame ahh. Next fontucky trip may be tommorow evening with my 7 point camel back and an ipod I'll just do 50 downhill runs
The thing about the fox foks is a through axle is handles alot better then a QR and I dont know if fox makes anything at 100m with a TA

I've heard a few complains about the Marz forks. I myself have the 888RCV and hate it with a passion. I love my Demo 8 but the fork just doesnt cut it... a few trips to the Path ended up removing the spring and turning my fork into an air. But it never got rid of the horrible top out problems I've had with it. The Path tried a few options but couldn't figure it out either, so now I may see if Garageworks can fix it, if not- looks like a new fork is in order.

BFloFoxRider, have you looked at X-Fusion forks? they've got great dampening from what I hear and dont cost too much.

well, i dont have the money for a 4x bike...
i have a frame in line if it doesnt fall through, i just have to pay for the cost to build it.. the building it up part will cost alot though..
i was thinking the Pike 454 with the remote but thats like 700 dollars or more.. x fusion is one i need to look into again.. either that or ill have to make my fox vanilla work for now..
i still woudlnt have a 4x bike for another month at least IF i even get one..

Brandon, did you see my Azonic for sale in the marketplace? The price is extremely low, and all you'd have to do is add some wheels, seat, and chain. Granted, it doesn't have the latest and greatest fork, but it is 20mm thru axle. But the best part is that you could get a bike together to race or play on for not very much until you can build your dream bike.

I'll let you ride my bike when it gets built up next week. I pretty much built up my dream 4X bike with my tax return and a little extra. But at least I'll never want to change anything besides the wheels in the future. I'm going to run the X-Fusion Velvet R

I hear talk of a 20mm being released soon. But right now it looks to be only QR. Like I said, I've only HEARD great things about it. We will just have to wait and see what happens.. if worse comes to worse, I'll rip the Pike off my Chumba.
