Does anyone run this chain guide? Can you tell me more about how it works? Thanks. Would you recommend it?
The reason I am wondering is I tend to have my chain in the middle chainring when I'm descending, and my chain clanks all over the place. Going to the larger chainring helps, but sometimes I get caught with my pants down when I come up on a sudden uphill, so I prefer being in the middle chainring. |

What should I put here?

A friend of mine has run one for a while and swears by it. I'm looking to pick one up as well. I dropped my chain twice in the babyhead section at Downieville... a Heim would have saved me a minute or two of hassling with it.

I'm running a Heim 3 but with only the granny/middle rings. Also I'm using an MRP roller instead of the Heim roller. Mine is flawless.
I've installed the guide in standard configuration on a friends bike with all 3 rings and it's worked pretty well. Cured the dropped chain issue but will sometimes derail the chain when backpedalling. C

I don't know if they have improved the roller but the one I had was pretty noisy (black roller). It works really well, except as Craig mentioned when backpedaling it can derail the chain sometimes. If you are only running 2 rings then I would run an MRP roller with the Heim arm.

I have a Heim with the LRP roller and it works fantastic. I've also used it with 3 rings and it still worked very well. However if your plan is to run 2 rings only, check out the Blackspire Stinger as it's way cheaper and from what I've heard works just as well.

new ISCG standard I've been using a Heim for years now with great success. I used the stock roller for a long time but MRP works much better IMO. ![]() ![]() ![]() OEM roller ![]()

So I've been looking for a Heim 3 Guide. Word is that e*thirteen purchased the patent from Montara. Unfortunately it looks like they are a ways off from putting it out - I sent them an email the other day, and FYI this came back today:
Hi Clark, Thanks for getting in touch. Yes, e*thirteen has purchased the Patent for the Heim guide. We are currently in the process of redesigning the system to make it even better and lighter. It will be released in the 3rd Quarter of this upcoming year. We have many other projects that are much more important which has put that one on the backburner for the time being. We were hoping to have it out by now but things usually don't work that way with new product. We will have a new website up in about a month which should have more information regarding the Heim 3 Guide and other projects we are working on. Thanks for the interest. Best Regards, Jonas |
