Default rear suspension sag? help...

Alright I tried downloading the info from marzocchi but no dice.

I was told on an 8" travel rear I want around 30% sag
My measurement from eye to eye on the shock non compressed was 8 and 3/4 inches, then I sat on the bike fully geared up & it compressed to 7& 5/8 inches, if my math is right im just under 30%.

This is on a roco tst coil shock with a 2.75 stroke & a 550 weight spring. The fox srpring weight calculator says I should use a 650 weight spring I have not bottomed the shock yet but I dont do my bike the justice it deserves, but I'm trying to change that.

Do i have it set right or should i buy the bigger spring
when I pedal down hill the back end feel's too soft, any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Does your Roco have a pedal platform? I run my Fox maxed out all the time so I don't get the pedal bob, and it bunny hops a little better.

Also don't sit on your bike to measure sag, stand on it like you would be when riding it. This way it has the correct pressure front and rear.

With 8 inches of rear end travel, 30% sag would put you at 5.6 inches of rear wheel travel remaining.

8.0" x 0.7 (70%) = 5.6"

If you are going eye to eye, that would come out to the shock being compressed to 6.125" from 8.75"

8.75" x 0.7 (70%) = 6.125"

EDIT: Pay no attention to the above rubbish. This is what I get for trying to think rationally at 4am

Why I didn't get ripped for this, I have no idea

Start with your shock stroke. The bike should sag about 30 percent of that. It sounds like you have it set up pretty soft. What bike is it?

The guid table is telling me I am pretty close where I want to be.

Now mesuring from eye to eye on the shock, & using 8.75 x .7=6.125. Now fully geared up and standing I am stll at 7&5/8" eye to eye, so using that formula It looks like I should have more sag?

what you guys think?

Doh! I'll plead early morning insanity for my first post

So, 30% sag would actually put your shock at 7.925", so yes, your setup is a bit soft. Sorry for the confusion.

2.75" x .30 = 0.825"

8.750" - 0.825" = 7.925"

I normally dont tune shiiiiiitt just put air in and go, but I have started to put some effort into it and the bike is starting to ride better and better

kind of like you can take the time to diagnose a problem or change parts all day till you get lucky.

When you measure that sagged eye to eye, are you measuring between two points that are actually 8.75 un sagged? If you are sagging from 8 3/4 inches, to 7 5/8 inches, then you are sagging a little over an inch. It sounds like you are sagging about 28 mm out of about 70 mm of stroke. That is about 40%
