I've been exchanging e-mails with a guy from Black Market. I mentioned to him that Riots have been very hot. In addition to Ricky wanting to buy my one-race frame, I had a few other people who were interested. Well, he mentioned that Riots are out of stock at Black Market until May or so. What does that mean? If you want a Riot or are thinking about getting one, buy it now!
I know Fullerton Bicycles had a 21.5" in raw steel (clear coated). The Path has a few the last time I was there (so with as hot as these are, who knows now...). And since Adrenaline Bikes is having Black Market at the demo ride on Saturday, I'm assuming they have some. Another excuse to post a pic of my former Riot (now Ricky's frame). I'm now waiting for my new frame to be finished.

If you do opt for the Pike, the coil spring version is your best bet. It adjust from 95 mm to 140 mm. The All Travel air is also a good choice, but you have to take the internals apart to lower it (it comes set at 140 mm). The Air U-turn only goes down to 110 and it can't be lowered any more than that. You're going to want to run the fork at 110 or lower.

lee did they say why. are they having production capacity issues.
seems we had a bit of a tough time getting on the 'same page' with them with my order and seemed based on prod line mgmt (not a dig on them here at all just honest curiosity). am sure some sort of growing pains as they get more demand. in regard to the 21.5 clear coat that is the exact bike I just picked up and the 'color' rocks! also is the spring pike adjustable on the fly (external) like the uturn as fork will most likely be my first upgrade and while running a 80 on it would like some adjustability. is it a thru axle?? thanks for the original post and any thoughts here. (im still hoping to make it to adreneline ride but won't know if doable for a bit and not sure with riot) maybe not best pics but link to a post with frame u mention www.socaltrailriders.org/forum/general-discussion/13984-my-girls-hot-girl-riot-girl-new-bikey-4-me.html

The coil spring Pike does have the external U-turn adjustment. All of the Pikes use a 20 mm thru axle.
I don't know about the reasons for Black Market's back order situation, but because the Riot is made overseas, the demand was probably much higher than they expected. If you compare a Mob (made in the US) and the Riot, it's very hard to tell the difference. There's only about .2 lbs difference, and the weld quality of the Riot is second to none. But best of all the cost of the Riot is significantly less (about $200 less MSRP). Well, the only Black Market I saw at the Adrenaline demo was privately owned, so I don't know what happened there. Maybe they were sold out. ![]() Kid A, I saw your Riot - Sweet! Are you going to take that out to Fontana?

Black Market and Chumba pulled out last minute. I got my frame and pressure suite today!
![]() I am just blown away by the color. I sat around staring at it for about 20 mins at Adrenaline and then another 15 when I got home. ![]()

My former Riot was too small for me. Generally speaking, a 4X bike is shorter than a XC bike. A shorter bike makes it easier to throw it around and to manual - much like an oversized BMX bike. I rode a couple 21.5" singlespeed Riots before purchasing mine. I'm 5'11", BTW. The bikes I rode were singlespeeds, and so they didn't have shifters. Right after assembling my Riot, I immediately noticed knee clearance issues - my knee hit the shifter. Come race day, matters got worse, as I was wearing knee pads, which further reduced the clearance. Otherwise, the bike felt like it was the perfect size. Keep in mind that it wasn't that bad, but just not ideal. My new frame will be a 22". I know, that doesn't seem like much of a difference, so I'm just praying. My Azonic was about the same length as the 22, and that was fine. The guys at Black Market also thought that would be a good fit. Their largest frame, by the way, is only a 22.5". So since most all of my mountain bikes are mediums, this should fit...I hope. If I screwed up again, you may see another Black Market for sale. So, to answer your question, I generally believe a 4X bike should be as small as you can tolerate.

Are you talking top tube? I usually ride a small/15" seat tube sized bike. There seems to only be two sizes on a lot of 4x bikes. Normal and long. Are they talking about top tube? Would I have a problem with normal sizes? What's the difference between Mob and Riot?
What's a good prereq for a 4x frame? 69 degree head tube? Thanks! Quote:

![]() The Mob is USA made by S&M bikes, intially some people say its a better built bike. But my experience with Tawain frames have been great so it doesn't matter. The Mob is suppose to be a stronger frame but thats also questionable to me. What really makes the difference between the two is that the Mob is offered in a vertical drop out option with ISCG mounts and removable gyro tabs if I'm not mistaken. Most people go for the Riot because its 200 dollars cheaper. Oh and the Mob has a bottle opener bottom bracket bridge if that helps... Theres not too many 4X speficic frames in general, most are just DJ bikes with gears- It works so why change it? the Yeti 4X is a SICK bike though. Other than that I'm not too sure if that many people make 4X specific frames because of the fact that a DJ frame can be used in place. They kill two birds with one stone? Some people prefer the Yeti DJ over the Mob because it has longer chainstays. But I can't tell the difference because I'm still a newb! Makes me want to buy more bikes!!!

You'll want a frame with a small seat tube. 13-15". Get that seat out of the way, bring the center of gravity lower to the BB. When it comes to the TT, it's a matter of leg and arm length. You can bet if 5'11" and taller, it's better to go with a TT of 22-23". You're knees will thank you. The chain stays should be between 16-16.25" for a hard tail and 16.2-16.5" for a full suspension bike. The shorter the chain stays, the easier it is to manual through the track, however-the bike becomes very choppy across the rough the shorter the wheel base. So be careful. I know the US hasn't seen them too often, but there are some race specific frames out there that are outstanding! Hope this helps!
