That's probably a result of poor frame design. I've been using slotted dropouts with disc brakes on my Surly 1x1, Azonic Evolution, and Black Market Riot. I've never had any fuss with the caliper when removing or adjusting the rear wheel. And even when I change gears on the 1x1, the movement is negligible relative to caliper position, so I've never moved the caliper. Apparently, I've been bless with frames of good design, relating to the rear wheel and disc brake caliper interface.

Not all sliders are created equal. I think these are very clean looking and don't disrupt the lines of the rear stays.

I agree with Marshall - the Black Cats are gorgeous and functional....but also pricey I imagine. SS manufacturers TAKE NOTE!!

Disk brakes is the issue

See my post above about disc brakes.

Damn it, Marshall! Almost every time you or Carla post pictures of your bikes, I make an embarassing mess. And I'm at work, damn it! Be right back.

This slider design has set screws that keep the sliders from moving. Once I got it dialed in the chain tension has remained the same.

That’s my story and I am sticking to it
These are the coolest dropouts I've seen so far.

Paragons are ugly in my opinion

The Surly KM is one of the frames that have a rep with disk brake issues.

I guess Surly doesn't always do it right. Or maybe it's how you have the caliper adjusted on the frame - there is a wide range of adjustment, and as a result, you may have your caliper in a location that makes it difficult. Also, could it be a caliper design issue? What brakes are you using? I'm using Hayes Mags.

Not as much as you might think. Certainly less than Willits, Sycip, Soulcraft, and some others I looked at.

I think On-One has got a good slot design with it's brake mounts rotated. Easy to get the wheel on or off, but you would still need to re-adjust the brake caliper if you change gears/chain length.

Yeah, and just how often are you going to change the gearing on your SS?

The Roger has a great design too.

Hmmm, how do you move the wheel forward to loosen the chain? (Loosen the brakes?)

Love the sliding rear drop outs on my Kona Unit 2-9er. In the 4 months that I've had it, they've needed adjusting once. That took all of 2 minutes. That bike has been maintenance free!!!!
