Default high speed compression

I have a 66 fork with ata & rcv. I have gotten my rebound set nice but i was wondering about the high speed compression knob, located on the bottom right fork leg.

If I understand everything right high speed compression is how fast or slow the fork will compress, or am I way out in left field.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated on helping me set the high speed compression.

MUCHO'S THANK YOU'S!!

high speed compression damping controls big hits. Low speed the smaller stuff and to control brake dive.

Hi speed damping is hard to tune. It is neerly imposible to tune it just pushing on the suspension. You can't really feal tuning changes unless you ride the fork, and know how to feel what the high speed damping is doing.

What has been said by is CalEpic accurate. High speed compression damping can stop you from blowing through travel. If you are bottoming your fork out, or if you are using more travel than seems good on medium and big hits, and the spring rate is correct, try more high speed compression damping. If you are not using much travel on big hits, but the fork is plush, turn that high speed damping out a little.
