Default Fox 36 or Marzocchi Z1 Light?

Which one do you guys think is better? Thoughts? Pros and Cons of each?

I have the Fox 36 Talas RC2 on my RFX, it’s soooo plush, I also like the three step travel adjust, another pulse is the 20mm quick release, in my opinion it’s the best, I also own a Pike and Marz 66 and out of the three Fox has the most secure QR.

A lot of people are happy with their Talas or Vanilla 36. However, I think there will be less problems with the Z1 Light, but they are very hard to find on the used market. I'm in the market for one right now, but I'm also thinking about getting the Marzocchi 55.

As long as you get the new 36, i'd go that way, a ton plusher than the old one, otherwise the MZ is pretty smooth. Ditto to TCB on the solid feel, but given the choice I'd run a RS Lyric first. I have a solo air that's insanely smooth...But the FOX is damn solid!!!!

On the Z1, since it has a coil, will I have to swap springs to a lighter one? I only weigh 145.

nope, there is an air preload so you can just not run any air in the chamber... if that is still too stiff, i'm sure you can change the spring out...

i don't remember my rebound and compression settings... i don't use too much rebound damping, maybe 7-8 clicks from full open, compression might be like 2-3 clicks from full open... 30 psi in the air preload to keep the front end up and not drive when on the brakes

Oil heights are key for tunning Zokes. Unlike the Fox offereings where there are a plethora of spring rates, the Zoke coil forks use oil height adjustments to get you in the ballpark for your compression dampening characteristics.

Zokes has the oil level tables on their website to get you started. When tuning my 66, tweaking the oil levels made the difference between adjustments that did very little, to putting everything right in the middle of the adjustment range where changes could then be felt.

Thumbs up

Z1 Light = R17 clicks-in / C4 clicks-in / 40 psi, can't say enough good about this fork (06, Foe's FXR 2:1)
