Default Hate to be the newb to ruin everything...

MOD EDIT: MOVED TO WORKSHOP FORUM

But I have a new bike computer to install on a bike and I just need a little help. The instructions do not tell me exactly where to install the sensor and magnet. Do I have to mount it precisely at a certain spot down the fork?

If it's wireless then the manual should tell you the maximum distance between the computer and the sensor. The lower down the fork the better and mount it towards the rear of the fork leg if possible to protect it from possible damage from the occasional branch, rock, small child etc... that you'll run into. Also note the maximum distance the magnet can be from the sensor as well.

Hope that helps.

Duc

Oh, and welcome Wey!

You'll want the magnet to be as close as possible to the sensor without actually touching it. The spot you mount the sensor on the fork will vary. You will prolly need to move the magnet up/down on the spoke and do the same with the sensor to get them as close as possible.

Try going on line to the mfgr's site and see if they have instructions under a technical section.

Instructions and manuals are just the manufacturers' opinions on how their products should be used.

Do it however you would like.

Thanks for screwing up my friday.

It can be mounted anywhere on the fork where the magnet can pass close enough to the sensor. Usually it's less than 1/4".

Wow, you guys are nice! The other forums usually scold ppl and tell them to use the search. I tried the search, and then I got lazy and I needed to get my post numbers up. Maybe another Newb will find this info helpful! Thanks!

EDIT: Oh yeah, I got a wireless (Cateye Micro Wireless)

I doubt you would have found anything useful by searching (and I'm too lazy to check). It sounds like the instructions were poorly written for your particular computer.

Dear Consumer,

Please repack all contents back into the original package, then:

- Open & dump contents onto floor
- Take instructions & toss aside
- Assemble pieces that look like they go together
- Attach assemblies to appropriate places on bike
- Turn on bike computer and attempt to operate
- If non functional, re-arrange said assemblies until bike computer works
- If all else fails, return all contents back into the original package for a full refund, as it was not intuitively designed

Czech it out: http://www.cateye.com/sites/cateye/u...C100Wv2ENG.pdf

The magnet should be 5mm or less from the sensor and the sensor should be no more than 70cm (27.5 in) away from the computer.

I used to have a cat eye wireless (well I still do but don't use it anymore) Anyways you have to play with that magnet to get it to register with the sensor. When I got the thing I had the same issues

"- If non functional, re-arrange said assemblies until bike computer works"

But don't read my instructions.

I was kidding because you didn't have numbers next to your steps, yet you said refer to #6, not the sixth step. Sorry...I'm just being anal. Did I mention that I am currently a technical writer?
