Please excuse my lack of technical knowledge in this post. I like riding my bike, but don't know what all the parts are called...
I got this Iron Horse Hollowpoint off Craigslist: ![]() The back section of the frame, just behind where the read shock mounts, there's this crack: ![]() It goes all the way through, but it's kinda held together by this bolt on top: ![]() Should I worry about this too much? Will the bike fall apart on my first hard ride? ![]() This thread didn't help much, Ha. |

That bolt is only holding the floating piece of metal from falling out.
Get it fixed before riding it, because there is essentially no pressure holding that pivot clamp together. I hope this was disclosed by the seller before purchase.

Paging Dr. Dino!!! Dooooodddddd......we can't allow a new Iron Horse brotha to fall like this! You need to call your committe and tell them how disappointed you are.
![]() If it was not orginally disclosed by the seller, he is truly not part of the Iron Horse Mafia....I might have to ask those orange colored, pouty lips Jersey boys to pay a visit to him! |

I noticed it when I bought it, but with my lack on knowledge, I didn't think it was a big deal. He mentioned that it had a lifetime warranty, so I'm planning on bringing by the shop he bought it from later today. We'll see what happens...
Worse case scenerio, I have to buy another frame. It would suck but the parts on the bike are worth more than the purchase price. |

Most of the "lifetime warranties" are to the original purchaser and you need to have the original receipt. Hopefully IH is different and will give you a new frame.

Selling people broken bikes isn't cool! That guy should be punished! Rumor has it: a few representatives from IH will be in the seller's area "investigating" the matter! Sure hope he is "NOT" home! ![]()

Hit up the original owner for the recipt, or have him talk to the shop where he purchased it from. At could have been caused by overtightening the bolt. It worst you'd have to buy new rear triangle from Iron horse.

I can be really cool too while selling you a cracked frame. Personally I wouldn't be so tolerant. I would hassle the guy a little bit. That's unrideable right there. If you have to pay for anything to fix the bike I would think it defeated the purpose of buying used from Craigslist, unless you got it for super cheap. Did you inspect other areas of the bike? One fracture can cause force to fatigue other areas too.

That frame is toast as-is. Might be hard to warranty too since you're not the original owner. See what the LBS can do for you about getting a new rear end. But that Hollowpoint frame was a few models ago so parts might be hard to come by.
I hope that guy sold you that bike super cheap. Because basically he just sold you the parts. Sucks to buy a bike and to start off with problems from the get go. Bummer. |

Just ordered the rear section direclty from Iron Horse, $120 shipped isn't too bad. The shop wanted to charge me $150? Heh... Still got a good deal on the bike even considering the extra to fix the frame... Thanks for the heads up everyone.
