Default Repairing cracked frames

Has anyone successfully repaired a cracked aluminum frame. I was just told by my LBS that i have a crack near the main pivot and i bought this bike 2nd handed (Intense Uzzi SL) and i doubt that they will warrantee it. I dont know if its possible but i know somebody who welds aluminum for the govt. and maybe he could weld something to reinforce it ? I dont know, but i was just seeing if somebody has done this b-4 and was successfull. I know that the MFG's and LBS's are here to sell frames and dont suggest that you do this..Thanks.

i would not bother trying to repair the frame since even if you do find someone willing to fix it, they will have to heat treat the frame as well.

ago a very skilled welder repaired a crack on one of my frames. It was to just get me by until I could afford a new frame.

You could e-mail Intense and do a trade in replacement. Or if you would like a Large Uzzi SLX send me a pm

As Tkblazer said bike are heat treated, so after welding you would have to re- heat treat it. After welding it, it would actually be weaker if you don't.

I would contact Intense. They do their welding and heat treating in-house, and I know for sure that they offer repairs on their frames. Cracked aluminum frames can be re-welded, but the heat treating has to be re-done afterward.

Even if you have to pay for the repair, it will be way better and cheaper than buying a whole new frame.

Another possible avenue would be to purchase a new front triangle if Intense offers it.

Call 'em!
