Default What Front Derailleur for Niner MCR?

I have decided to put a front derailleur on my MCR. Niner's site states "Works best with a low mount (top swing) - top pull derailleur."

What the heck Shimano XT derailleur is that?
FD-M770 or FD-M772?

It would be helpful if Shimano described the minuet differences between their products.

On the shimano website it says that the 772 was designed for trekking bikes.

772

They modified the cage for increased tire clearance.

770

The 770 is the better choice if you have a full suspension bike.

"More clearance behind the seat tube for down swing FD, mud guard, or suspension."

I think either will work OK, but one might have more clearance for 29'er bikes with short chainstays. Might want to try both or get the regular 770 version and see if there are any fitment issues.

I'll prolly go with the 770 and be done with it. I really want to stay with the 1x9 but worried about running out of gears for the really big steep days. The thought of trying to climb Condor Peak or up Mt. Zion with 1x9 scares me. I might give it a go this Friday on my Upper Tujunga ride and see how I fair with the 1x9 before throwing in the towel.

Yeah I would go 770 as well. They basically made the 772 with a shorter cage to work on bikes with fenders, but I can see how this would be a good choice for a 29'er with really short chainstays.
