Like frame design, tire selection was all over the place. I think it was either Carter or Houseman who was running Small Block 8s front and rear. Some others ran more aggressive tread front and rear while others ran something relatively smooth in the back with something more aggressive up front.
I ran a 2.1 SB8 in the rear and a 2.35 Nevegal in the front. I felt it was a good balance of speed and hookup in the turns. I probably could have been fine with a 2.1 Nevegal in the front. |

Did they grab pretty good on that lower berm, it was super slick (the site of all the cool accident pics that David posted). I think EC and Houseman were the only ones I saw who didn't slide out pretty bad through that section.

I didn't have a problem with them sliding out through there, but I wasn't pushing that hard in that turn becaues I wasn't going elbow to elbow with anyone through there. EC and Houseman could have been riding road bikes and would have still found a way to get traction.
Kind of funny, I thought, the one guy featured in the crash sequence is a Black Market-sponsored dirt jumper. Although someone suggested that he run a front brake, he didn't heed the advice. He was also running some kind of DJ tires with minimal traction. He said he came into that turn way to hot and just couldn't scrub enough speed with his rear brake and his foot dragging. He went over the berm, broke his pedal off on a rock, and dislocated his shoulder. Fortunately for him, it easily popped back in place and he was OK after an ice pack to the shoulder and some ibuprofin. That's the guy who was manualling from the 4th turn down the hill all the way to the 5th turn in the lower section...then clearing the triples. That guy rocked! ![]() |
